About The Position

The Major Gift Officer will develop (in collaboration with the Director of Major Giving) and implement a comprehensive plan and strategy for the DCMC Foundation, with a focus on major gifts of $10,000 and above and event sponsorship. The position will develop and implement strategies for identification, qualification, cultivation and stewardship of major gift donors and potential donors, including those from the annual giving pool. In collaboration with other gift officers, this individual will work closely with the rest of the team on other giving priorities and special projects, including database entry and coordination, marketing, writing, and event planning/execution.

Requirements

  • BA/BS in related field. Fundraising experience may be substituted on a year-for-year basis for up to four years of the required education.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in major gift fundraising, preferably in a healthcare or nonprofit setting.
  • Proven track record of securing significant philanthropic contributions from individuals and foundations.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build rapport and engage high-net-worth individuals effectively.
  • Excellent organizational and project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
  • Personal computer skills and experience with Raisers Edge or Salesforce (preferred) and Microsoft Word, Adobe, Excel, PowerPoint.

Responsibilities

  • Establishes and monitors a major gifts portfolio for the Foundation.
  • Researches and identifies major gift prospects for LHDCMC programs.
  • Works with the Vice President to set annual goals.
  • Serves as the giving officer assigned to service areas as needed, working with the clinicians to identify, solicit and steward grateful patients to this service area.
  • Keeps up to date with industry fundraising technology, best practices, and environmental trends.
  • Works closely with other Foundation staff members to contribute to a comprehensive MOVES management plan.
  • Develops short and long-term business plans, as appropriate.
  • Meets regularly with key DCMC personnel, physicians, clinicians and other leaders to encourage identification of special gift prospects.
  • Assists Foundation staff with cultivation and recognition events.
  • Works closely with other giving officers in the Foundation to qualify prospects referred through the Grateful Patient program.
  • Works closely with Privacy office to ensure that all patient solicitations are in keeping with HIPAA law.
  • Works with gift processing to ensure appropriate tracking and reporting of gifts by campaign.
  • Participates in professional networks to maintain current knowledge of laws and techniques.
  • Functions as a key member of the Foundation fundraising team and provides additional support as requested.
