About The Position

The Major Crimes Special Agent position within the Colorado Bureau of Investigation (CBI) is responsible for conducting complex criminal investigations, including homicides, arson, and serious assaults. This role involves working closely with local and state law enforcement agencies to provide investigative assistance and ensure the enforcement of Colorado's criminal laws. The agent will engage in interviews, evidence collection, report writing, and may be required to testify in court. Requirements

  • Six years of professional investigative or detective experience with a law enforcement agency.
  • Current Colorado POST certification in good standing.
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution and two years of professional investigative experience with a law enforcement agency.
  • A combination of related education and/or professional investigative experience equal to six years.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct lengthy complex criminal investigations for local and state agencies.
  • Interview suspects, witnesses, and victims as part of investigations.
  • Search for evidence of criminal acts and write comprehensive reports of findings.
  • Effect physical arrests and attend required training when necessary.
  • Write affidavits, warrants, case filings, and subpoenas for legal proceedings.
  • Testify in court and make recommendations regarding prosecution.
  • Collect, analyze, and disseminate criminal intelligence.
  • Analyze legal and agency documents in support of criminal investigations.
