About The Position

Performing routine maintenance around the building such as fixing structural damage, for example, window, door or wall repair Repairing broken or leaking plumbing to avoid water damage and restore full use of water fixtures. Working on damaged electrical wiring when a shortage or severed wire occurs  Maintaining the building HVAC equipment in order to keep climate control in the facility functioning properly. Applying preventative measures to the building to reduce the risk of future problems, such as using a sealant on a flat roof. Fixing potential safety hazards to avoid injuries.  Painting the building when old paint has become faded and/or chipped. Assist, prepare and maintain sports turf and related facilities and equipment throughout the school grounds. Shovel, plow, and/or sand walks, driveways, parking areas, and steps, as appropriate.  Inspect playground equipment and outdoor play areas as assigned. Carry out scheduled cleaning duties and preventive maintenance on all buildings and building equipment. Be available to assist in other areas and with other custodians as needed. Assist in maintaining standards of building and site cleanliness to provide a healthy, safe, and attractive physical environment. Maintain a sense of pride in the areas of responsibility which are presented to the public. Follow established safety procedures at all times. Understand that an occasional need will arise to work a split shift or a weekend activity. Substitute as custodian if necessary. Assist in the maintenance of school equipment and facilities to support the educational program. Knowledge and application of preventive maintenance procedures. Move equipment and supplies as needed for the proper operation and maintenance of the school.

Requirements

  • High school diploma, G.E.D. or equivalent.
  • Experience in construction/maintenance fields.
  • Positive attitude.
  • Good health.
  • Good attendance work record.
  • Possess a valid State of Iowa driver's and/or chauffeur's license.
  • Reliable Self-starter, ability to work alone.
  • Be able to lift 50 pounds in the daily performance of the position and an occasional 50-70 pounds.
  • Ability to work from/off a ladder/scaffold in order to change light bulbs, clean light fixtures, paint, clean walls, make minor repairs, etc.
  • Mechanical aptitude for equipment operation.
  • Ability to complete assigned task/schedule successfully and in a timely manner.
  • Ability to see what needs to be done and do it.
  • Attend training as needed to maintain or receive certain maintenance licenses.
  • Applicants will be required to submit to a background check and to a pre-employment drug test.
