About The Position

Under the direction of the Facilities Manager, this position requires physical and technical duties in maintaining and cleaning all County buildings including the Fairgrounds ensuring an efficient clean and safe campus. This person will perform a dual role in both building maintenance and assisting janitorial duties, depending on departmental needs. Demonstrated experience with building maintenance is required along with a knowledge of custodial responsibilities. It requires ability to operate various types of machinery, including tractors and mowers. At times strenuous and physical labor will be required including snow removal. The ability to communicate clearly with Ravalli county residents is essential.

Requirements

  • General understanding of basic operations of HVAC Systems, electrical systems, plumbing systems, carpentry operations and management principles.
  • Good organizational skills with appropriate proof of experience.
  • Ability to work occasional weekends and evenings and be on call when emergencies arise.
  • Knowledge of safety hazards and proper use of various cleaning and sanitizing solutions.
  • Knowledge of how to properly utilize and follow direction of SDS and product specifications.
  • Detail-oriented and thorough.
  • Ability to perform basic repairs and operate tools or equipment used in routine maintenance.
  • Ability to keep Ravalli County buildings clean and orderly.
  • Ability to interact with staff and general public while remaining professional, polite and courteous.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Must possess a valid Montana Driver’s license.
  • Must pass a background check.

Nice To Haves

  • 2 years’ experience in similar position
  • Working knowledge of facilities maintenance for a multi-building campus environment preferred.
  • Knowledge of County, State and Federal building specifications preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Perform day-to-day maintenance and janitorial activities spending approximately half of the year with the general County buildings and half of the year in the Fairgrounds.
  • Perform regular inspections and maintain a record of the conditions in all facilities as appropriate.
  • Adhere to policies and procedures to ensure that the Department is performing efficiently.
  • Set priorities on maintenance projects, special projects and work orders, set time lines for completion and do regular follow up to establish progress.
  • Ensure that requests and work orders are executed in the proper fashion and timely manner and that Equipment Room Logs are maintained.
  • Participate in a wide variety of maintenance projects and activities such as: Delivering copy paper, assist with document shredding, elections set up, furniture repair, change light bulbs, recycling, grounds keeping, snow removal, ice melt, irrigation, mowing, moving document boxes to storage, minor and major facilities repairs, changing air and water filters.
  • Participate in fire drill, evacuation plans and other safety issues.
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to respond to emergencies off hours to assist with: Weather related operations, Emergency maintenance.
  • Operate landscaping equipment: Tractors, Mowers, Weed eaters, Trimmers, Hand tools.
  • Operate snow removal equipment: Snow Plow, Snow blower, Ensure timely spread of snow-removal chemicals.
  • Operate power tools.
  • Service, clean and supply restrooms.
  • Strip, seal, finish, and polish floors.
  • Clean building floors using appropriate equipment (manual or power): Sweeping, Mopping, Floor polishing, Vacuum, Carpet Shampooer/Steam Cleaners.
  • Preparation and use of chemical cleaners to prevent damage to floors and fixtures.
  • Ability to read and understand guidance of SDS and manufactures specifications for proper use of chemicals.
  • Proper storage and labeling of chemicals as specified by manufacturer and SDS.
  • Gather and empty trash receptacles.
  • Dust furniture, walls, machines and/or equipment.
  • Clean windows, glass partitions and mirrors using appropriate cleaning agent and tools.
  • Maintain a neat and orderly work area; ensure maintenance and cleaning supplies are stocked and Facility Manager is notified of orders needed.
  • Monitor building security and safety by performing tasks including but not limited to: Locking doors after operating hours as directed by Facilities Manager. Unlocking doors for normal operating hours as directed by Facilities Manager. Checking electrical appliances use to ensure that hazards are not created. Checking equipment as directed by Facilities Manager for normal operations. Reporting safety hazards and deficiencies to Facility Manager.
