About the position
This position requires a general knowledge of carpentry, minor electrical work, plumbing, painting, and related trades. The incumbent will repair surfaces by methods such as sanding, scraping, or wire brushing for applications of coating materials such as painting, staining, varnishing, or shellacking on furniture, dry walls, ceilings, trims, etc. Responsibilities include cutting and installing carpet, performing preventative maintenance on small equipment and appliances, and installing hardware to repair sluggish drains. The role also involves removing and replacing minor electrical items, coordinating work with Civil Engineering and other agencies, and operating a variety of vehicles including trucks and snow removal equipment. The incumbent will complete records and accident reports, purchase equipment/repair parts as needed, and perform other related duties as assigned.
Responsibilities
- Repair surfaces using sanding, scraping, or wire brushing.
- Apply coating materials such as painting, staining, varnishing, or shellacking.
- Cut and install carpet.
- Perform preventative maintenance on small equipment and appliances.
- Install hardware to repair sluggish drains.
- Remove and replace minor electrical items.
- Coordinate work with Civil Engineering and other agencies.
- Load, unload, or relocate heavy and bulky items.
- Operate a variety of vehicles including trucks and snow removal equipment.
- Complete records and accident reports.
- Purchase equipment/repair parts as needed.
Requirements
- General working knowledge of all aspects of building maintenance including carpentry, plumbing, painting, and electrical trades.
- Working knowledge for repair and maintenance of equipment including power mowers, snow blowers, vacuum cleaners, and floor shampooers.
- Valid driver's license.
- Ability to frequently handle objects weighing up to 50 lbs.
- Effective communication skills both orally and in writing.
- Satisfactory completion of a National Agency Check Inquiry (NACI).
- Satisfactory completion of snowplow special licensing requirement.
- Satisfactory completion of a pre-employment drug test.
