This position serves as maintenance staff for the Floyd County Department of Parks and Recreation, responsible for maintaining and upgrading park facilities, properties, and equipment. The role involves a variety of tasks aimed at ensuring the safety, functionality, and aesthetic appeal of park grounds and facilities. The maintenance worker will be engaged in routine upkeep of park grounds, which includes mowing grass, trimming and cutting shrubs and trees, raking and mulching leaves, hauling dirt, spreading dirt, and performing snow removal as needed. In addition to grounds maintenance, the worker will operate various heavy and light equipment, including dump trucks, skid loaders, tractors, RTVs, chainsaws, and various hand tools. This equipment is essential for carrying out general maintenance, repairs, and ensuring the safety of park facilities. The maintenance worker will also be responsible for repairing, constructing, and painting park facilities and equipment such as open shelters, piers, benches, picnic tables, and playground equipment, as assigned. The position requires the maintenance worker to ensure the proper functioning of assigned vehicles and equipment by performing minor repairs and maintenance. The worker will maintain the appearance of buildings by sweeping and mopping floors, stripping and waxing floors, buffing floors, polishing fixtures, changing light bulbs, cleaning restrooms, emptying trash, and cleaning walls and baseboards. Outdoor areas must also be kept clean by picking up trash and sweeping sidewalks and parking lots. The role may involve performing minor building repairs, carpentry, roofing, and electrical and plumbing work, with the responsibility to notify the supervisor of any major repairs needed. The maintenance worker will drive light and heavy trucks to haul supplies, parts, and materials, and assist with maintenance duties at other county facilities as requested. This position may require occasional weekend work and shifting of duty hours during certain recreational seasons.
