About The Position

The maintenance worker performs maintenance work in multiple agency facilities, to include routine maintenance and landscaping activities dependent upon workload demands, working with the manager, to establish work priorities. Work will evaluated through inspection of the quality of completed work assignments, ability to follow instructions and complete job assignments in a timely and cost efficient manner.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED required
  • Must have a satisfactory criminal background check and pass post job offer physical and annual physicals.
  • Drug and alcohol screening as specified in the drug free work place policy.
  • Valid driver’s license with a good driving record; adequate personal transportation to include auto insurance compliant with Tennessee state law.
  • BE ABLE TO PASS A DRUG SCREEN & BACKGROUND CHECK
  • RELIABLE TRANSPORTATION
  • Must be able to lift a minimum of 50 lbs. and have physical stamina to complete physically demanding work in hot or cold weather conditions for approximately 8 hours daily.
  • Must be able to work in confined and awkward spaces and to climb ladders, operate power tools.

Nice To Haves

  • computer skills, related to email and parts search, highly desirable.
  • License as electrician or plumber a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Maintenance of playground surfacing, to include mowing and weed removal either with or without additional contract assistance.
  • Inspection of facilities to discover damage or dangerous conditions such as broken glass, splintering wood and unsafe playground equipment.
  • Perform troubleshooting activities on heating and cooling systems, ensuring that scheduled maintenance on systems are complete.
  • Complete quarterly HVAC coil cleaning and filter changes on HVAC units or ensure that contractors have completed such maintenance.
  • Make periodic inspections to discover damage or hazardous conditions.
  • Maintain or install adequate fencing to play areas to separate play areas from traffic and other dangers.
  • Provides maintenance of Head Start facilities that ensures it is free of toxins, dangerous materials, and contaminants (hazardous materials to be removed by licensed or certified contractors as required by regulation).
  • Ensure all lighting is in working order to include emergency lighting.
  • Ensure that approved and working fire extinguishers are readily available, in the number required.
  • Ensure that exit door mechanisms work easily and open outward, repair and/or replace any doors, door knobs, and locks to include re-keying if qualified or secure contractors.
  • Repair and/or replace P-traps, flush valves and other minor plumbing components.
  • Install, repair, and/or replace cooper or PVC pipes, valves, or other plumbing fixtures.
  • Unstop sewer lines using electrical and/or handheld augers.
  • Patch and repair sheetrock and repair small areas as needed.
  • Install and/or replace ceramic tile, floor tile, and linoleum in small areas.
  • Replace broken concrete in sidewalks and driveways and patch small areas of asphalt.
  • Repair broken windows and screens and repair siding in small areas.
  • Assist the administrative office with storage facility organization and the proper disposal of obsolete records.
  • Perform routine service maintenance activities such as changing filters, cleaning gutters, caulking windows and doorways, stripping and waxing floors, etc.
  • Assist with delivering materials and supplies to facilities.
  • Keep all vehicles, tools, and equipment in good operating order.
  • Respond to emergency maintenance requests.
  • May obtain estimates / bids for supplies, repair parts; order parts as necessary with appropriate prior approvals.
  • Comply with agency work rules / provides details on time sheet related to non-Head Start work (indirect or child care) to allow allocations.
