About The Position

The Maintenance Worker at NEXCOM Hospitality Group Navy Lodge/Navy Inn performs a full range of maintenance and housekeeping services, ensuring the upkeep of buildings, grounds, fixtures, equipment, guest rooms, and public spaces. This role involves various assignments including simple painting, plumbing, carpentry, and electrical repairs, utilizing different equipment. The incumbent is expected to take initiative to ensure all facility aspects are functioning correctly.

Requirements

  • Minimum two years of experience with demonstrated skill in two areas (Carpentry, Plumbing, HVAC, Electrical, Painting).
  • Knowledge in the applicable combination of trades sufficient to perform the duties of the position.
  • Knowledge of safety and environmental rules and regulations concerning procedures, tools, mechanical and electrified equipment, commonly used chemicals and basic safe work practices.
  • Complete all required safety security training.
  • Ability to perform moderately strenuous physical labor as unassisted lifting, moving and carrying of supplies and equipment weighing up to 45 pounds (100 pounds assisted) is required.
  • Ability to climb, descend stairs and ladders, stoop, bend, kneel and work in uncomfortable positions.
  • One year of experience that provided the applicant with knowledge of general maintenance practices involving the upkeep of buildings, grounds, fixtures, equipment etc.
  • Three years of maintenance work involving painting, plumbing, carpentry and electrical repairs.

Responsibilities

  • Performs work in at least two of the following trades in the maintenance and repair of buildings and related fixtures.
  • Maintains work order log and follows up as required.
  • Reports status to supervisor.
  • Logs trouble calls with contractor as appropriate.
  • Makes basic plumbing repairs to sinks, faucets, commodes, tanks, urinals, P-traps, shut-off valves on washing machines and water supply.
  • Installs water heaters, garbage disposals, faucets and sinks.
  • Performs routine maintenance on washers and dryers to include cleaning lint ducts and vents, replacing hoses and fittings as required.
  • Recognizes the cause of faulty equipment and assists making repairs on a variety of HVAC units as appropriate.
  • Recognizes and reports electrical problems making repairs as appropriate.
  • Replaces fluorescent and incandescent ballasts, bulbs and tubes.
  • Measures, cuts and constructs or repairs wood or wood substitute items.
  • Conducts basic carpentry repairs such as repairing or replacing screens, window and door frames, molding and trim, and repair and replacement of drywall or similar products.
  • Prepares areas and uses standard coating methods such as brushing, rolling and spraying for painting.
  • Ensures surfaces are fully coated, protected and free from drips and runs.
  • Performs a variety of semi-skilled and unskilled tasks involving standard methods related to the operation and maintenance of facilities.
  • Carries out recurring assignments independently without specific instructions (e.g., follow-up on maintenance requests reported by guests, housekeeping or front desk).
  • Performs daily work on own initiative and carry out assignments in accordance with DOD and Navy regulations.
  • Refers situations involving unfamiliar problems not covered by instructions to the supervisor for resolution.
  • May be required to possess a valid state driver license as travel to other facilities may be required within the normal scope of duties.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
