The Public Utility District No. 1 of Skagit County is seeking a Maintenance Worker to perform a variety of heavy manual labor and other tasks in the maintenance and repair of PUD facilities and associated infrastructure. Work is performed under adverse working conditions, in all types of weather, and can be at any hour of the day or night (although normal schedules are set and consistent). Requirements

  • High School diploma or GED required.
  • Must be legally eligible to work in the United States.
  • At least two (2) years of experience performing physical labor, preferably in connection with the maintenance and repair of underground utilities.

Nice To Haves

  • Water Distribution Manager 1 (WDM1) certification is preferred , and preference will be given to these candidates.
  • Preference given to candidates with a CDL Class A with tanker endorsement, or must be obtained within one (1) year of hire. at the applicant's expense. The PUD offers cost assistance for obtaining the CDL upon successful completion.
  • Cross Connection Control Specialist (CCS) certification must be obtained within 1 year of hire.
  • Flagger card
  • Forklift certification
  • Competent Person/Cave-In Protection training
  • Confined Space training
  • Asbestos Cement Pipe Work Practice and Procedure training
  • First Aid/CPR/AED certification

Responsibilities

  • Routine maintenance on fire hydrants, meters, valves, pump stations, reservoirs, buildings, mowing, clearing, and other areas as directed.
  • Locates, inspects, and performs maintenance on valves, hydrants, and meters from maps, drawings, and sketches to gather asset-related information.
  • Also performs limited pavement, site restoration, and environmental protection in and around construction sites.
  • Specialized duties include new service installations, tie-ins, leak detection and repair, resolving customer issues, investigations, and meter testing.
  • May also include installation and repair of customer water services of all sizes, water distribution system repairs, shutting down and repairing water mains, tapping water mains, resolving flow complaint issues, and investigating water theft, backflow, and other system risk issues.
