About The Position

This position is responsible for performing various tasks involving maintenance of parks, beach accesses, recreational structures, and related facilities at the following location: Saint Simons Island. Parks: Empty trash and recycling containers; carry/transport trash and recycling to designated areas; Mow and edge park grounds; Seed, fertilize and water park grounds; Apply herbicide and pesticides as directed; Install, inspect and repair irrigation systems; Prune/remove trees and shrubs; Dig hole/trenches and shovel/spread materials; Install/repair and paint fences, benches, and picnic tables; Remove litter and debris from park grounds, including picnic areas, barbeque grills, and cigarette butt receptacles; Remove any small dead animals within the parks; Supply dog parks with waste disposal bags and remove waste collection as necessary; Perform various custodial tasks in park restrooms to include sweeping, mopping and disinfecting surfaces; Replenishing restroom products (soap and paper goods); Visually inspect playground areas and equipment, and report any safety hazards to supervisor; Repair and paint playground equipment as directed. Beaches: Patrol beaches and accesses for litter, debris, and safety hazards; Report safety hazards and any dead/injured wildlife to supervisor; Remove dead animals as directed; Inspect, report, and repair damage to beach access boardwalks and signage; Remove any beach chairs, umbrellas, or tents from the beach, according to county ordinance; install sand fencing, if directed; install/remove Mobi-mats.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED supplemented by two (2) months previous experience and/or training involving general building maintenance, general building trades, road construction/maintenance, grounds maintenance, equipment operation, and/or maintenance work in area of assignment.
  • Valid Driver's License is required.
