About The Position

The Maintenance Worker is responsible for maintaining safe, clean, and functional residential group homes serving individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD). This position ensures that facilities meet health, safety, and accessibility standards while minimizing disruption to residents’ daily routines. The Maintenance Worker performs routine maintenance, preventative care, and minor repairs across multiple residential sites.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED required
  • Minimum of 1–3 years of general maintenance experience
  • Knowledge of basic plumbing, electrical, carpentry
  • Ability to troubleshoot and complete repairs independently
  • Strong attention to safety and detail
  • Ability to interact professionally and compassionately with individuals with IDD
  • Effective time management and organizational skills
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds
  • Ability to bend, stoop, kneel, climb ladders, and work in confined spaces
  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods
  • Valid driver’s license with acceptable driving record
  • Ability to pass background checks and clearances as required by state regulations
  • Availability for occasional evenings, weekends, or emergency call-outs

Responsibilities

  • Perform routine maintenance and repairs to residential homes, including plumbing, electrical, carpentry, painting, and appliance repair
  • Conduct preventative maintenance inspections and address issues proactively
  • Maintain outdoor areas, including snow removal, lawn care, and basic landscaping
  • Ensure homes are structurally sound, clean, and fully operational
  • Promptly address safety hazards to protect residents, staff, and visitors
  • Maintain accurate maintenance logs, inspection reports, and work orders
  • Support compliance with licensing and accreditation requirements (e.g., state IDD oversight agencies)
  • Perform work respectfully and discreetly in occupied homes, maintaining residents’ dignity and privacy
  • Communicate professionally with residents and staff while working on-site
  • Schedule repairs in a manner that minimizes disruption to daily routines and programming
  • Coordinate with supervisors, residential staff, and outside vendors as needed
  • Order supplies, tools, and replacement parts within budget guidelines
  • Respond to emergency maintenance calls as required
