St. Vincent de Paul Society of San Francisco operates the Multi-Service Center - Northern California’s largest homeless shelter, the Division Circle Navigation Center for chronically homeless individuals and couples and the Riley Center - Domestic Violence shelter and services for survivors. SUMMARY: Under the supervision of the Shift Supervisor, the Maintenance Worker is responsible for both general and specific cleaning duties throughout the Navigation Center. This is a non-exempt, full-time, union position. This position works Graveyard Shift (12:00 Midnight to 8:30am). Days off are Tuesdays and Wednesdays.

Requirements

  • Possess a High School Diploma or GED.
  • 1 year cleaning experience.
  • Strong verbal and written English communication skills.
  • Understanding of OSHA requirements with regard to maintenance.
  • Comfort working around a diverse community including LGBTQQ, mental illness and varying racial ethnicities.
  • Demonstrated commitment to open, direct, and non-violent communication.
  • Ability to lift up to 70 pounds.
  • Strong initiative and ability to work both independently and cooperatively.
  • Ability to maintain professional boundaries with guests, volunteers and staff.
  • Commitment to the mission of St. Vincent de Paul Society of San Francisco.
  • Covid vaccination and negative result on TB test required.
  • Background check completed upon acceptance of job offer.

Responsibilities

  • Clean the interior areas, restrooms and yards of the Navigation Center.
  • Perform daily, weekly and monthly duties as assigned by the Shift Supervisor.
  • Clean the outside perimeter of the Navigation Center daily, including sweeping, watering plants and cleaning the garbage bin area, and surrounding neighborhood as needed.
  • Ensure that the dog run area is kept clean.
  • Participate in regular staff meetings and training.
  • Participate in the Injury and Illness Prevention Program, including the use of Personal Protective Equipment, i.e. gloves, footwear, eye and face protection and protective clothing
  • Perform other appropriate duties as assigned.
