St. Vincent de Paul Society of San Francisco operates the Multi-Service Center - Northern California’s largest homeless shelter, the Division Circle Navigation Center for chronically homeless individuals and couples and the Riley Center - Domestic Violence shelter and services for survivors. SUMMARY: Under the supervision of the Shift Supervisor, the Maintenance Worker is responsible for both general and specific cleaning duties throughout the Navigation Center. This is a non-exempt, full-time, union position. This position works Graveyard Shift (12:00 Midnight to 8:30am). Days off are Tuesdays and Wednesdays.
Requirements
- Possess a High School Diploma or GED.
- 1 year cleaning experience.
- Strong verbal and written English communication skills.
- Understanding of OSHA requirements with regard to maintenance.
- Comfort working around a diverse community including LGBTQQ, mental illness and varying racial ethnicities.
- Demonstrated commitment to open, direct, and non-violent communication.
- Ability to lift up to 70 pounds.
- Strong initiative and ability to work both independently and cooperatively.
- Ability to maintain professional boundaries with guests, volunteers and staff.
- Commitment to the mission of St. Vincent de Paul Society of San Francisco.
- Covid vaccination and negative result on TB test required.
- Background check completed upon acceptance of job offer.

Responsibilities
- Clean the interior areas, restrooms and yards of the Navigation Center.
- Perform daily, weekly and monthly duties as assigned by the Shift Supervisor.
- Clean the outside perimeter of the Navigation Center daily, including sweeping, watering plants and cleaning the garbage bin area, and surrounding neighborhood as needed.
- Ensure that the dog run area is kept clean.
- Participate in regular staff meetings and training.
- Participate in the Injury and Illness Prevention Program, including the use of Personal Protective Equipment, i.e. gloves, footwear, eye and face protection and protective clothing
- Perform other appropriate duties as assigned.
