About The Position

The Ponca Tribe of Nebraska is a federally recognized Tribe with its ancestral homeland located in Niobrara, NE. The Tribe does not have a reservation in the classic definition; rather, the Ponca Restoration Act defined its jurisdiction as a 'Service Delivery Area' comprised of 15 counties throughout parts of Nebraska, Iowa, and South Dakota. Within its Service Delivery Area, the Tribe offers a broad range of health, social, educational and cultural services. The Transportation Maintenance Worker maintains and repairs the Tribe’s Transit buildings, property, trails, and grounds.

Requirements

High school diploma or GED.
One year of related experience.
Electrical, carpentry, plumbing, mechanical and general maintenance skills and knowledge.
Excellent written and oral communication skills.
Valid driver’s license and be insurable.
Successfully pass drug and alcohol testing, motor vehicle, education, character, and criminal background checks.
Able and willing to travel.

Nice To Haves

Certification or associate degree in electrical, carpentry, plumbing or related field.
Horticulture experience
One or more years experience working with Native Americans or Native American organizations.

Responsibilities

Provide necessary repairs and maintenance to the Tribe’s Transit property as needed and as requested on work orders.
Maintain cleanliness of Ponca Express and GSA vehicles, including washing the exterior of the vehicles, vacuuming carpets & seats, checking and topping off engine fluid levels, and providing overall vehicle routine maintenance.
Maintain landscaping, which includes: mowing, weed control, planting and trimming of shrubs and trees of the Transit Building.
Responsible for the overall wellbeing of the entire Ponca Education Trail including earth lodge and amphitheater and other trail destinations.
Maintain and controls irrigation systems linked with tribal transit inventory.
Clean internal areas of transit building which includes: dusting, sweeping, mopping, vacuuming and window washing.
Haul, repair and replace roadway aggregate.
Remove snow and ice from parking lots and sidewalks.
Replace worn or damaged parts such as hoses, wiring, switches, fuses and belts in machines and equipment such as truck and riding lawnmower.
Keep a log of all service, maintenance and repairs performed on all equipment.
Perform regular inspections to monitor for repair and safety hazards and prepare a plan of action to address the inspection findings.
Maintain an inventory of all equipment and tools used by the Maintenance staff and submit to Procurement Officer at least annually.
May be on-call after normal office hours for emergency or routine maintenance needs, including when business office is closed due to inclement weather.
Other duties as assigned.
