About The Position

MTC operates the Inland Empire Job Corps Center in San Bernardino, CA, where staff provide quality services to local youth. The Maintenance Worker is responsible for accomplishing general maintenance and repairs on equipment and buildings, assisting with technical trades such as plumbing, electrical, painting, carpentry, heating, ventilating and air conditioning systems in compliance with government and management directives. Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Technical training and general knowledge of maintenance/repair
  • Two years related experience
  • Ability to occasionally lift and carry up to 50 lbs.
  • Experience working with youth
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record

Responsibilities

  • Repair or replace faulty or damaged light fixtures, electrical outlets, thermostats, breakers and/or fuses.
  • Repair washers and dryers as necessary; recommend contracted assistance when on-center repair is not possible.
  • Construct, remove or repair structural woodwork to adhere to building codes; replace damaged ceiling and floor tile.
  • Maintain and preserve all flooring and/or covering by scrubbing, stripping, waxing, buffing and sweeping.
  • Install window glass and screens.
  • Perform limited repair or replacement of plumbing, fixtures, washers, and seals, as directed.
  • Supervise assigned students while completing designated center support tasks.
  • Perform routine scheduled checks of the heating system.
  • Maintain a safe and clean work area that models high standards for a work environment.
  • Support, promote, and enforce the Job Corps’ Zero Tolerance Policy.
  • Participate in student career success standards programs and activities.
  • Promote the development of Career Success Standards by modeling appropriate behaviors, mentoring students where necessary and monitoring both positive and negative behaviors through interventions.
  • Maintain accountability of students and property; adhere to safety practices.
  • Perform other duties as assigned within his/her capabilities as determined by management.
