About The Position

This position is in the Maintenance Division at Booker T. Washington National Monument, located in Hardy, Franklin County, Virginia. The selectee will be entitled only to the lowest step of the grade for which selected. The display of a salary range on this vacancy shall not be construed as granting an entitlement to a higher rate of pay.

Requirements

  • U.S. Citizenship required.
  • Appointment subject to background investigation and favorable adjudication.
  • Meet Selective Service Registration Act requirement for males.
  • Selectee will be required to participate in the Direct Deposit Electronics Funds Transfer Program.
  • A valid driver's license is required.
  • You will be required to wear a uniform and comply with the National Park Service uniform standards.
  • You may be required to work on-call, evenings, weekends, holidays, overtime, and shift work.
  • You will be required to complete a one-year trial period.
  • You may be required to travel overnight away from home up to 2 nights per month.

Responsibilities

  • Utilize a variety of materials, tools, and equipment associated with the repair and maintenance of structures and grounds.
  • Perform minor plumbing repairs of limited difficulty such as tightening or replacing in-kind fittings and fixtures.
  • Perform minor carpentry repairs of limited difficulty to buildings and quarters, including constructing, installing, repairing, and replacing items such as doors, shelves, supply racks, hardware, frame structures, windows, trim, and cabinets.
  • Perform routine maintenance at different sites and visitor facilities, including cleaning restrooms and making minor repairs as needed.
  • Receive, unload, and process incoming shipments according to established procedures, and report discrepancies and damage to others responsible for such items.
  • May perform other duties such as painting, masonry work, roofing, welding, or assisting higher grade workers with maintenance of utility systems in the facility.
  • Operate a light truck to pick up supplies and transport materials to and from work sites.
