This position is responsible for performing a variety of maintenance, minor construction, custodial duties, and grounds keeping tasks in and around City parks and recreational facilities. The essential duties and functions of this role include operating equipment such as tractors and push mowers to maintain grass at city parks and sports facilities, as well as trimming trees, weeds, and edges as needed. The worker will also rake and clean grounds by picking up trash, paper, and tree trimmings, and apply herbicides and pesticides as required. In addition to grounds maintenance, the position involves performing basic carpentry work and repairs, as well as custodial duties at city parks and facilities. This includes cleaning restrooms, restocking soap and paper products, washing windows, and emptying trash cans. The worker will assist with the maintenance of swimming pools by monitoring chemical levels, cleaning, vacuuming, and repairing chemical pumps and injector systems. Minor electrical repairs and maintenance of sprinkler systems are also part of the job. The worker will be responsible for maintaining city streets and property, which includes painting buildings, crosswalks, center lines, signs, curbs, and equipment. They will also prepare cemetery lots for funerals by digging graves and setting up burial equipment. The role requires the ability to read, write, and perform basic mathematical calculations, as well as sufficient experience to understand the basic principles relevant to the major duties of the position, usually associated with one year of experience in grounds keeping or general labor services. The position requires possession of a valid driver's license issued by the State of Texas and the ability to obtain a state-certified Commercial Pesticide Applicator's License. Knowledge of building and grounds maintenance methods, safety rules, and various cleaning chemicals is essential. Skills in operating specialized cleaning equipment and various hand and power tools are also necessary. The work is performed under the supervision of the Parks Maintenance Supervisor, who assigns tasks and checks completed work for compliance with established procedures.
