About The Position

The employee is assigned to the Plumbing & Mechanical Unit as a Maintenance Worker. They are in charge of the maintenance of sophisticated mechanical and electrical machinery and systems in the facility. They are to perform routine and extensive range of work in the repair and general maintenance within the facility and Clinics throughout Puerto Rico and Virgin Islands. All work must be executed within established procedures and process under both verbal and/or written instructions.

  • Selective Service Registration is required for males born after 12/31/1959.
  • You may be required to serve a probationary period.
  • Subject to background/security investigation.
  • Pre-employment physical required.
  • Selected applicants will be required to complete an online onboarding process.
  • Participation in the seasonal influenza vaccination program is a requirement for all Department of Veterans Affairs Health Care Personnel (HCP).
  • Participation in the Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) vaccination program is a requirement for all Veterans Health Administration Health Care Personnel (HCP).

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for the lubrication of motors, chain drives and all moving carts and components of equipment in the building.
  • Be familiar with the equipment being worked on in order to determine any malfunction and take action.
  • Responsible for checking proper function of motors, bearings, hydraulic systems, chain drive systems, belt drive systems, geared drive systems and direct drive systems.
  • Be familiar with the use and upkeep of all power and nonpower tools which will be used in the performance of their work such as drills, wrenches, measuring devices etc.
  • Be aware of conditions that could endanger the safety of personnel and property.
  • Perform P.M. routine repairs with unscheduled maintenance (emergency repairs).
  • Keep record of all materials in stock and inform Supervisor on a weekly basis of this list.
  • Conduct periodic inspections, work performed at intervals on equipment that is running or shutdown, visual inspections, teardown inspections, overhauls (minor) scheduled replacement of parts.
