About The Position

The Maintenance Worker, Utility at Penn State Behrend is responsible for performing a variety of maintenance tasks to ensure the cleanliness and functionality of campus facilities. This full-time position involves operating cleaning equipment, performing minor repairs, and assisting with event setups, contributing to a safe and welcoming environment for students and staff.

Requirements

  • Requires the use of simple writing, adding, subtracting, and following instructions.
  • Ability to use fixed gauges and direct reading instruments and devices without requiring interpretation.
  • Up to and including 3 months of effective experience.

Responsibilities

  • Operate various types of scrubbing, buffing, and shampooing equipment and hand tools as required.
  • Sweep, scrub, strip, seal, wax, and shampoo various types of floors and floor coverings and furniture.
  • Remove and replace incandescent bulbs, fluorescent tubes, shades, and covers from permanent fixtures.
  • Remove accumulated waste and debris from buildings as required.
  • Move and relocate furniture, equipment, supplies, and construction materials; unload incoming materials and move to storage locations.
  • Wash windows, wall sections, ceilings, venetian and roller blinds, light fixtures, and window screens.
  • Assist in the setup and cleanup of chairs, tables, stages, platforms, bleachers, and lecterns for events.
  • Remove debris from walks and driveways; rake and remove leaves and pick up paper and other debris.
  • Operate a motor vehicle to transport materials, equipment, and personnel between building work sites.
  • Maintain tools, equipment, and work area in a clean and orderly condition; report unusual conditions to supervisor.
  • Shovel snow and chop ice; spread cinders, sand, and other anti-skid materials on walks and driveways.
