About The Position

DEFINITION Perform a variety of duties in the maintenance and grounds keeping for the City Utilities and related facilities . SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED Receives general supervision from an assigned supervisor. Exercises no supervision. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS Display honest, trustworthy, and ethical behavior when dealing with internal and external customers. Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with those contacted in the course of work. Regular attendance that is punctual and dependable is required. Work alongside equipment such as trenchers, backhoe, forklift and crane, along with hand excavation, backfill and tamp, including the installation of conduit, cabinets and transformers. Pull cable and wire through conduit systems. Install guard post – entailing digging, installation of re-bar, and filling with concrete Clean and organize hand tools. Wash and wax, and assist with minor maintenance of pickups, trucks and equipment. Clean and maintain buildings and grounds; sweep and clean buildings, and paved storage areas, mow lawns, remove weeds and various kinds of vegetation in and along buildings, storage yards and facilities, sidewalks, fences, etc. Utilize a variety of hand and power tools, including mowers, weed eaters, etc.; assist in routine maintenance of such equipment. May perform routine preventive maintenance on tools and equipment. Utilize proper safety precautions in all work performed. May perform semi-skilled and skilled tasks involving the maintenance, construction and repair of facilities. May perform basic carpentry work and painting for building and maintaining facilities and equipment. May assist in other sections of the Department as necessary. Perform related duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of : Methods, techniques, and procedures related to assigned area of responsibility.
  • Traffic laws, ordinances and rules.
  • Purposes and uses of a variety of equipment, power tools and hand tools.
  • Ability to : Operate a variety of equipment in a safe and effective manner.
  • Work effectively in the absence of close supervision.
  • Use and operate hand tools, mechanical equipment, power tools and other equipment required for the work in a safe and efficient manner.
  • Employee must possess a valid driver’s license and maintain insurability as determined by the City’s insurance carrier.
  • Must be 18 years of age.
  • Formal or informal education or training which ensures the ability to read and write at a level necessary for successful job performance.
