About the position

Performs manual labor and semi-skilled work in the operation of trucks and equipment for a wide variety of job functions in various City departments, in accordance with all safety regulations and procedures.

Responsibilities

  • Performs a variety of manual labor and semi-skilled equipment operation in order to maintain streets, roadway, water and sewer systems, infrastructure, parks, grounds and facilities as assigned.
  • Assists in the repair and maintenance of streets, roadways, sewers, parks, and infrastructure.
  • Maintains landscaping and grounds; clears trash, brush, weeds and debris.
  • Digs and fills holes; patches, clears and repairs roadway and adjoining areas; installs and maintains signs.
  • Cleans and maintains City parks and facilities; makes minor facility repairs.
  • Delivers recycling/trash containers to residents.
  • Performs traffic control activities as needed; follows safety regulations in all work sites.
  • Operates and maintains a variety of specialized vehicles, tools and equipment; cleans and performs routine maintenance work on tools and equipment.
  • Completes required daily logs and reports.
  • Utilizes proper safety precautions in all work performed; reports safety hazards, equipment problems and emergency situations.
  • Recognizes, avoids, and reports unsafe acts, conditions, accidents and injuries.
  • Cross-trains in a variety of work tasks and maintenance procedures.
  • Performs tasks in the interest of public safety and property protection during emergencies.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned or required.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Must possess a valid Texas Driver's License.
  • Commercial Driver's License (CDL) is required when assigned to the Public Works Division.
