The City of Norfolk's Parking Division is an enterprise fund, which falls under the Department of General Services. The Parking Division operates over 19,000 public parking spaces located in 14 garages, 10 lots and more than 500 on street spaces. The Department of General Services-Parking is currently looking to hire a Maintenance Worker lI to assist in maintaining the aesthetics and operability of city parking garages. This is heavy manual labor work in the upkeep and maintaining of the city parking garages. Work involves performing general maintenance and light-construction in parking, lots, garages, and surrounding areas.

Requirements

  • Work requires the ability to read and understand written instructions, to understand simple processes and the routine operation of machines.
  • Level of knowledge equivalent to high school or equivalency.
  • One year as a Maintenance Worker, or successful completion of the Operations Apprentice program based on assignment.
  • Valid Driver's License required.

Responsibilities

  • Daily cleans assigned areas; sweeps floors, dumps trashcans; washes windows and mirrors; and cleans restrooms.
  • Cleans walkways and areas around buildings. Sweeps, vacuums, and spot cleans surfaces as necessary.
  • Must be able to interact in a friendly and helpful manner with other employees, the public, staff, and others.
  • Must be able to stand/walk for periods up to 8 hours; bend; stoop; and climb ladders, and stairs.
  • Must be able to move industrial size mops and cleaning equipment and be able to lift equipment, materials, and supplies up to 60 pounds.
  • Must be able to work in a team environment and be able to follow instructions both orally and in writing.
  • Must be able to read and follow work schedules.
  • Requires full range of hearing, peripheral and night vision, and color/depth perception.
  • May require regular exposure to inclement and severe weather conditions.
