The Maintenance Worker II performs a variety of skilled and semi-skilled maintenance, repair, and construction tasks to ensure the safe and efficient operation of campus facilities, buildings, and equipment. This role involves troubleshooting, routine inspections, preventive maintenance, and responding to service requests in areas such as carpentry, plumbing, electrical, painting, and general repairs. The Maintenance Worker II may operate tools and equipment, assist with special projects, and provide guidance to entry-level staff. Work is performed independently or as part of a team under general supervision, with an emphasis on quality, safety, and customer service.

  • Perform a variety of semi-skilled/skilled maintenance and repair work in areas such as plumbing, carpentry, painting and electrical, and basic HVAC activities.
  • Conduct preventive maintenance on buildings, equipment, and mechanical systems.
  • Respond promptly to work orders, service requests, and emergency calls.
  • Inspect facilities and equipment to identify maintenance needs and safety concerns.
  • Operate and maintain a variety of hand tools, power tools, and light equipment safely and effectively.
  • Maintain accurate records of work performed, materials used, and time spent using computerized maintenance management systems.
  • Assist higher-level trades staff, contractors, and vendors on specialized projects.
  • Maintain workspaces, tools, and equipment in a clean and organized manner.
  • Perform general building maintenance duties - sets up and takes down facilities in support of the facilities rental program.
  • Perform non-routine and more complex assignments.
  • High school diploma or GED required; vocational or technical training preferred.
  • At least seven (7) years of building, equipment, or facility maintenance experience.
  • Valid driver's license required.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds, climb ladders, bend, and work in confined spaces or elevated areas.
  • Willingness to work indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions.
  • Availability for on-call duties, rotating shifts, and occasional overtime as needed.
  • Certification in relevant safety or trade-related areas (e.g., OSHA, HVAC, electrical, or forklift operation).
  • Experience performing preventive maintenance and troubleshooting across multiple trades.
  • Prior experience in a campus, institutional, or commercial facility environment.
