About The Position

GENERAL DESCRIPTION Under general supervision, to perform skilled work involved in the sandblasting and painting of refuse containers and other related items. Repair and maintain related equipment and general yard maintenance. SUPERVISION EXERCISED This position exercises no supervision. IMPORTANT AND ESSENTIAL DUTIES Clean, sandblast, paint and stencil metal refuse containers. Operate forklift, sandblaster, and paint gun. Occasionally operate a truck, small crane, or other related equipment. Perform maintenance on paint and sandblast equipment, forklift, mower, tractor, and air compressor. Perform maintenance at the facility by removing litter and debris, mowing and using weed eater. Maintain inventory of necessary supplies, materials and tools. Train, guide, and assist less experienced personnel. Maintain daily log of containers that were sandblasted or painted. Unload received supplies. OTHER JOB RELATED DUTIES Perform other job related duties and responsibilities as assigned. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES Knowledge of: Sandblasting and painting equipment. Principles, practices, and occupational hazards and safety precautions of general maintenance work. Safe driving principles and practices. Skill to: Operate and care for a variety of tools, materials and equipment. Operate a motor vehicle safely. Operate paint equipment. Ability to: Use hand and pneumatic tools. Maintain accurate records on supplies, materials, and time. Effectively follow and implement both verbal and written instructions Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with those contacted in the course of work, both internally and externally. Experience and Training Guidelines: For positions with more than one level, all listed requirements at the lower levels are required at the higher levels. Any combination equivalent to experience and training to provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities may be qualifying. Knowledge, skills, and abilities may be obtained through: Experience: Two (2) years of experience in performing heavy manual work is preferred.Education/Training: Formal/informal education or training which ensures the ability to read and write at a level necessary for successful job performance is required. License or Certificate: A valid Texas driver’s license, the ability to obtain one within ninety (90) days of employment, or a military waiver is required. Special Requirements: Essential duties require the following physical skills and work environment: Bloodborne Pathogens training and HazCom training are required within sixty (60) days of employment. Ability to take initiative when not on an assigned task or when the opportunity presents itself. Exposure to cold, heat, noise, outdoor, vibration, confined workspace, chemicals and dust.
