About The Position

The Maintenance Worker II position within the City of Plantation's Public Works department is a non-exempt role focused on performing semi-skilled manual labor for the maintenance, landscaping, and repair of municipal properties. This position is exclusively available to current employees of the City of Plantation and involves a variety of tasks that require both physical labor and technical skills in various trades.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Minimum of 1 year of experience in ground, street, and/or landscape maintenance or construction.
• Valid State of Florida driver's license.
• Knowledge of tools and equipment used in landscape maintenance and construction.
• Knowledge of tree trimming methods and relevant safety precautions.
• Skill in written and verbal communication.
• Ability to perform heavy manual labor for extended periods.

Nice To Haves

• Experience in plumbing and electrical tasks.
• Knowledge of principles and fundamentals of horticultural and plant nurseries.

Responsibilities

• Operates sprayers and related equipment for weed and pest control.
• Installs trees and shrubbery to maintain landscaping throughout the city.
• Trims and fertilizes trees, shrubbery, lawns, and sports fields as needed.
• Performs semi-skilled carpentry, masonry, painting, plumbing, electrical, and landscaping tasks for general maintenance.
• Supervises and manages personnel of lower classifications.
• Mixes concrete and replaces and repairs sidewalks throughout the city.
• Digs, grades, and sets forms for concrete work and tamps and levels concrete.
• Assists higher-level tradesmen in various skilled trade projects.
• Installs new and old road signs, erects barricades, and repairs breaks and holes in street surfaces.
• Cleans and cares for public buildings and other municipal property.
• Lines playing fields, drags, waters, weeds, and maintains landscaped areas of sports fields.
• Repairs and maintains playground equipment to retain proper operating condition.
• Performs miscellaneous pick-ups and deliveries of errands as required.
• Exercises care and safety in the use of equipment and tools required to complete assigned tasks.
