About The Position

This is manual and semi-skilled work involving a wide variety of tasks in the routine maintenance and repair of Parks and Recreation grounds and facilities as well as all other County-owned property. When first assigned, tasks are performed under close supervision; as skills are acquired, workers may perform routine tasks independently. Work is inspected during progress and upon completion. Job Description: Job Description Salary Range: $37,139.00-$99,026.00/Annually BUDGETED SALARY: $39,500.00 Essential Duties: Grooms ball diamonds; erects soccer and football goal posts, repairs fencing and backstops, basketball backboards, nets, and rims. Removes trash from parks, playgrounds, and other areas. Performs light janitorial work. Operates equipment such as but not limited to, riding mowers, string trimmers, chain saws, hedge trimmers, infield machines, utility tractors, skid loaders, and woodchippers. Drives pickups, SUVs, vans, and utility trucks. Transports equipment using a small lowboy trailer. Cleans exterior of buildings and machinery. Performs various semi-skilled carpentry, painting, and other maintenance/repair work on County-owned property. Is on 24-hour call during snowstorms and other emergencies. Is required to report to DPW for snow clearing duties and may be used to assist with snow preparation operations such as pre-treating parking lots and sidewalks. Installs and removes temporary fencing for special events and works special events by setting up the Showmobile Stage. Assists in the maintenance of landscaping, formal gardens, and stormwater management ponds on all County-owned property. Assists in the operations of the Adopt-A-Park program by hanging and taking down Adopt-A-Park signs, delivering plants to groups, and helping volunteer groups with landscape maintenance of their parks. Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

One (1) year of experience in building maintenance, ground maintenance, landscaping or farming work.
None Years of Supervisory Experience
Graduation from high school, vocational-technical school, or possession of a GED certificate.
Possession of a valid Class "C" non-commercial driver's license with no more than three (3) points. Be advised this position requires a valid driver's license. Your application will not be considered if you fail to include the full driver's license number on the electronic application.
General knowledge of the methods, materials, and equipment used in the maintenance of parks and recreation facilities
Basic knowledge of landscaping materials, plants, and equipment
Ability to deal with the public cooperatively and courteously, while maintaining an effective working relationship with others
Ability to follow written and oral instructions
Ability to drive cars and trucks, sometimes with a trailer
Ability to transport materials from one worksite to another
Ability to climb, stoop, kneel, bend, or sit depending upon work assignment
Ability to stand or walk for prolonged periods of time
Ability to lift and move objects while exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and up to 20 pounds of force constantly.
Must comply with all Federal (OSHA), State of Maryland (MOSH), safety regulations, and applicable Harford County safety
