About The Position

Under direct supervision, performs semi-skilled and unskilled work to assist in the maintenance and construction of City grounds and equipment. Work involves the maintenance and landscaping of City grounds; application of herbicides and insecticides as needed; maintenance and repair of fences, City buildings, and equipment; assisting with the repair of light equipment assigned to the department. Work also involves assisting with the clearing of land for designated areas and sidewalks; setting up and assisting with special events. Reports to the Grounds Maintenance Supervisor.

Requirements

Graduation from high school, and 1 to 2 years experience in grounds maintenance; or any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required skills, knowledge and abilities.
Must be physically able to operate a variety of machinery and equipment including lawn mowers, edgers, tractors, etc.
Must be able to exert up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects.
The job is rated for Medium Work.

Responsibilities

Performs general landscape maintenance duties, including mowing and trimming grass and shrubbery, edging, spraying herbicides and pesticides, and spreading grass seed and fertilizer; polices areas to remove debris and litter.
Prepares and maintains grounds and facilities; grading and performing general landscaping functions on City property.
Maintains and repairs fences in necessary areas; removes damaged portions of fences; replaces and repairs damaged portions of fences; installs new sections of fences and gates.
Assists in the maintenance and construction of equipment and facilities such as shelters, maintenance shelters, and other structures associated with the Department.
Assists supervisor with the maintenance and repair of equipment assigned to the department; assists with routine maintenance of equipment.
Performs other related work as required.
