About The Position

To construct, repair and maintain County roadways and bridges. This position is responsible for operating light and heavy construction and maintenance equipment, motor vehicles, and performing manual labor.

Requirements

  • High school graduate or equivalent
  • Two years of experience in the operation of highway construction and/or maintenance equipment
  • Valid CDL - Minnesota Class A driver's license without restrictions
  • Tanker endorsement or the ability to obtain with six months of employment
  • Able to report to work within 45 minutes if necessary
  • Experience using a personal computer

  • Snow removal and ice control operations in a road system environment
  • Maintenance Worker with a County, City or State office
  • Vocational training with experience in the operation and maintenance of light construction and maintenance equipment
  • Making minor repairs and adjustments to service equipment
  • Experienced in the operation of trucks, tractors and other light automotive equipment

Responsibilities

  • Operates heavy equipment including, single axle and tandem trucks, pavers, motor graders, shouldering machine, front-end loaders, skid steers, water truck, loader, and street sweeper.
  • Plows and wings snow and applies ice control materials to County roads in an effort to maintain safe roadways.
  • Installs and/or repairs bridges, culverts, fences, guard rails and snow fences.
  • Cuts brush and trees with hand and power tools; uses shovels to load and distribute fill and patching material and removes snow on bridges.
  • Fills patches and cracks of bituminous roadways.
  • Hauls material including fill, gravel and bituminous mix.
  • Removes debris and dead animals from roadways and ditches.
  • Performs routine preventive maintenance on equipment; assists in the performance of mechanical repair of equipment to ensure safe and proper working condition of all tools and equipment.
  • Attends work in a regular and timely manner.
  • Performs other duties as assigned or apparent.
