The Operations and Maintenance Division within the Public Service Department is seeking skilled individuals to join their crew of Maintenance Workers. This position allows individuals to contribute their skills and abilities by performing maintenance both safely and properly for the overall improvement of City streets and roadways. If you enjoy working outdoors and accomplishing tasks with a dynamic crew, this could be the position for you. The role involves a variety of tasks that are essential for maintaining the infrastructure of the city, ensuring that streets, sidewalks, and other public areas are safe and functional for residents and visitors alike. As a Maintenance Worker, you will be responsible for working on a paving crew to place non-compacted asphalt in the proper location using a shovel and then racking the material with a lute. You will also be involved in grading sub-bases for the installation of pavement, sidewalks, curbs, and gutters, as well as setting concrete forms for these installations. It is crucial to visually check form work to ensure that the forms meet line and grade requirements. Additionally, you will be placing and finishing concrete into the forms using various tools such as rakes, shovels, and come-alongs to ensure proper finishing of concrete surfaces. The position requires driving various trucks and operating snow plows and road salting equipment, as well as operating heavy power assisting tools. You will be responsible for driving dump trucks and other related vehicles to deliver supplies, tools, parts, and other materials. Furthermore, you will be expected to perform landscaping operations, restore lawns and parkways after construction, conduct safety checks, and perform minor repairs and maintenance on vehicles and equipment. Setting up traffic control devices, including cones and barricades, is also part of the job responsibilities. Ideal candidates will possess a high school diploma or GED and have relevant experience in asphalt work, sewer maintenance, or road and street maintenance.
