Leggett & Platt, Incorporated is looking for someone to hire to be a Maintenance Technician in Grand Rapids, Michigan. The Maintenance Technician will be responsible for repairing tools and fixtures, installing, maintaining, and repairing machinery, equipment, physical structures, and pipe and electrical systems. This position requires a high school diploma or GED, or six months to one year of related experience and/or training.

  • Visually inspects and tests machinery and equipment.
  • Listen for unusual sounds from machines or equipment to detect malfunction.
  • Dismantles defective machines, tools, fixtures, and other equipment and installs new or repaired parts.
  • Cleans and lubricates shafts, bearings, gears, and other parts of machinery.
  • Installs and repairs electrical apparatus, such as transformers and wiring.
  • Lays out, assembles, installs, and maintains pipe systems and related hydraulic and pneumatic equipment.
  • Repairs and maintains physical structure of establishment.
  • Installs, programs, or repairs automated machinery and equipment such as robots or programmable controllers.
  • Operates cutting torch or welding equipment to cut or join metal parts.
  • Fabricates and repairs counters, benches, partitions, and other wooden structures.
  • Monitor and report all lock-out and tag-out procedure violations.
  • Interprets blueprints.
  • Measures, marks and scribes material for machining.
  • Sets up and operates various woodworking equipment to repair or fabricate machine parts, jigs and fixtures.
  • Must be able to operate forklifts and platform lifts where needed or required.
  • Must be able to work at heights up to 24' when required.
  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or six months to one year related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Ability to read and analyze professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.
  • Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure.
  • Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
  • Ability to use basic geometry and trigonometry.
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
  • Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form.
