About The Position

Georgia-Pacific is now hiring a Maintenance Technician to join our Lumber facility in Talladega, AL. The starting pay for this position is $27.00 per hour or better, depending on experience, with a $5.00 per hour shift premium for any hours worked from Friday to Sunday, subject to overtime rules. The role requires flexibility to work any shift, including overtime, holidays, and weekends as needed. The work schedule consists of a 12-hour rotating shift, with shifts alternating monthly. The orientation week will be from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Monday through Friday, after which regular shifts will be assigned. The shift hours are from 6:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m., with specific days off as outlined in the job description. In this role, you will be responsible for adhering to all plant safety and environmental guidelines, policies, and procedures, and actively participating in the safety program. You will support operational efficiency by troubleshooting and maintaining manufacturing equipment and processes. This includes performing periodic proactive asset strategies such as maintenance routes and preventative maintenance to improve reliability and uptime. You will also be involved in installing and repairing mechanical drives, chains, sprockets, gearboxes, belts, and couplings, as well as maintaining and troubleshooting pneumatic systems, control devices, hydraulic equipment, circuits, and components. Collaboration with operations and maintenance teams to identify and prioritize maintenance needs is essential. You will utilize pipefitting skills to weld, cut, fit, and install piping throughout the facility, assist operators or crew members with machine start-up, shutdown, or cleanup, and research parts in equipment manuals while submitting work orders in a computerized maintenance management program. Daily communication regarding work performed and machine conditions will be documented both in writing and verbally.
