The Maintenance Technician is a hands-on role responsible for performing and coordinating a wide range of tasks related to the maintenance and upkeep of the agency's buildings, equipment, and grounds. This position ensures that all CFS owned properties and leased spaces (in coordination with the Facilities Manager) remain fully functional, safe, and in compliance with all applicable health and safety standards. This position will be housed at our Church Street site in New Bedford, MA, but candidates will be required to work at all locations. Therefore, final offer amounts may vary from the amount stated SCHEDULE: MONDAY - FRIDAY / 9AM-5PM + On-Call Nights and Weekends

  • Perform general building maintenance and repairs at all CFS owned and leased properties, including but not limited to:
  • Electrical: Replace lights, bulbs, switches, and outlets
  • Plumbing: Unclog drains and toilets, repair toilets, and replace faucets
  • Carpentry/Repairs: Fix gutters, trim, doors, furniture, and patch wall holes
  • Painting: Interior and exterior walls, trims, and touch-ups
  • Landscaping: Weed removal, mulching, planting, and seasonal cleanups. Ice and snow removal from sidewalks and walkways
  • Assembly: Assemble furniture and equipment as needed
  • Respond promptly to requests submitted through the online maintenance ticketing system and document work performed
  • Conduct regular inspections of facilities to identify and resolve safety and maintenance issues
  • Complete seasonal HVAC filter changes and routine preventive maintenance tasks.
  • Monitor and ensure compliance with local, state, and federal building codes and safety regulations
  • Track, coordinate and carry out maintenance of agency vehicles, including routine service appointments, inspections, and registration renewals
  • Be available on-call nights, weekends, and holidays
  • Perform other duties as assigned
  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience in facilities maintenance or a related field.
  • Demonstrated mechanical aptitude with a safety-first mindset.
  • Ability to troubleshoot, diagnose, and resolve basic issues in electrical, plumbing, and HVAC systems.
  • Comfortable climbing ladders and working at various heights.
  • Capable of lifting and carrying heavy objects.
  • Familiarity with building codes and safety regulations is preferred.
  • Self-motivated with the ability to manage multiple priorities and tasks independently.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and general computer systems for internal communication and documentation.
  • Awareness of personal attitudes, beliefs, biases, and assumptions about others

  • Must have a valid driver’s license and reliable transportation that meets CFS Driver Policy. Regular travel between CFS facilities is required to fulfill job duties.
  • Bilingual fluency in Portuguese and/or Spanish is highly desirable.
