ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Observes devices and equipment in operation and troubleshoots problems. Dismantles and reassembles equipment to make necessary repairs. Examines form and texture of parts to detect imperfections. Inspects used parts to determine changes in dimensional requirements. Adjusts functional parts of devices and control instruments. Repairs or replaces defective parts. Installs special functional and structural parts in devices. Lubricates and cleans parts. Performs various electro-mechanical maintenance functions. Sets up and operates lathe, drill press, grinder and other metal working tools to make and repair parts. Other job duties as assigned. SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: None. EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Associate’s Degree or equivalent from two-year technical school studying applied trades, plus a six months to one year of directly related experience or equivalent combination of education and experience. LANGUAGE SKILLS: Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization. Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Ability to work with basic mathematical concepts. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios and proportions to practical situations. COMPUTER SKILLS: Ability to use word processing, spreadsheet applications. Must be familiar with internet research and the use of e-mail. REASONING ABILITY: Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form. CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS: No certificates or previous experience is required, but the employee must be willing to further his education with any experience that will help him perform his job in a more efficient manner (after work hours welding classes, after work hours machine shop classes, etc.).
