About The Position

ZFS Ithaca has taken over the role of Michigan’s largest soybean processor, a title held by its affiliate, Zeeland Farm Services, Inc., for more than 20 years. ZFS Ithaca is a 45 million bushel per year soybean processing operation and a 6.8 million bushel grain storage facility serviced by both rail and truck. Located in the beautiful city of Ithaca in central Michigan, ZFS Ithaca has quadrupled the state’s soybean processing capacity and will impact agriculture in the state for decades. Job Summary: The Maintenance Technician is responsible for the maintenance, repair and/or replacement of plant equipment and systems, to ensure maximum production and quality, while supporting the policies, goals, and objectives of the company.

Requirements

Education: High School or Equivalent required, and related technical field, certificate, or diploma from a trade school in related field, preferred.
Experience: In-depth knowledge of maintenance and/or operation of a process manufacturing facility, preferred.
Working knowledge of plant equipment and safety.
Ability to adapt to changes in the work environment; manages competing demands; able to deal with frequent change, delays, or unexpected events.
Excellent problem-solving and decision-making abilities
Strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines.
Strong analytical skills with the ability to analyze data and make data-driven decisions.
Ability to build relationships with internal and external customers.
Ability to communicate effectively with co-workers and senior level management.
Ability to maintain good attendance habits.

Must be 18 years of age.
Frequently required to walk and stand, bend, use stairs and ladders, kneel to lift objects of 50 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds. At times may be confined or be harnessed.
Able to work with heights up to and including 225 feet.
Operate in an office and production environment.
Production environment could include frequent exposure to moving mechanical parts; loud noise levels; high, precarious places; fumes or airborne particles; outside weather conditions; extreme heat or cold; risk of electrical shock and vibration.
The employee has the potential to be exposed to toxic or caustic chemicals.
This position requires the ability to wear a respirator.

Responsibilities

Participates in the established maintenance plan and compliance with procedures for maintaining high standards of ethanol and by-products operations to ensure that products conform to established customer and company quality standards.
Repairs or replaces plant equipment or systems on a scheduled or emergency basis.
Assists with diagnosing and trouble-shooting maintenance related issues.
Performs preventative maintenance activities as required.
Communicates directly with operations department to coordinate maintenance and repair work.
Assists with new installations and other projects, as requested by the supervisor.
Participates in safety, health, and environmental programs.
Works in a safe manner at all times.
Knows and understands city, county, state, and federal regulations relating to maintenance and plant equipment, and works in a manner to ensure that these regulations are met at all times.
Participates in programs and procedures required to ensure plant cleanliness.
Assist all other employees and departments as required for efficient plant operation.
Capable of performing and learning new industrial equipment mechanical repairs and basic electrical repairs.
Provides a “Customer Service” attitude when interacting with internal and external customers while accomplishing work, production, and achieving quality standards.
Conform with and abide by all regulations, policies, work procedures, instruction, and all safety requirements.
Maintains a clean, orderly, and safe workstation/environment at all times.
Perform other duties as assigned.
