About The Position

The Maintenance Technician will be responsible for performing maintenance and service repairs on a variety of equipment and facilities found in academic, residential, athletic, and office settings. This position primarily handles plumbing and light electrical needs across campus. The Maintenance Technician will work collaboratively with other teammates in Campus Operations. This position requires a general understanding of multiple trade functions and operations, and has a strong commitment to safety and efficiency. To be successful in this role, the individual must have a proven track record of exceptional workmanship, efficient problem solving skills, attention to detail, and a commitment to excellence.

Requirements

  • Ability to follow instructions regarding the use of supplies, chemicals, equipment, and use as directed.
  • Ability to use standard 6’ to 40’ extension ladder; man lifts
  • Ability to safely operate power tools, golf carts / UTVs, trucks / trailers, etc.
  • Some night and weekend hours are necessary.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Certification from a vocational school or completion of apprenticeship is preferred.
  • Proven experience working in a trade and providing service in commercial and residential settings.
  • Proven ability to diagnose and make necessary repairs, following safety instructions and directions.
  • Proficiency with hand tools and other equipment.
  • Valid Driver's License
  • Excellent active listening, problem-solving, and communication skills.
  • Self-motivated, independent, and reliable with a strong work ethic.
  • Ability to lift and move items up to 50-75 pounds and be physically able to stand, walk, climb, squat, kneel, push, pull, twist, bend, lift and carry items.

Responsibilities

  • Knowledge to perform maintenance needs and responses for plumbing and light electrical work, as well as tools and equipment needed for repairs and preventive maintenance service.
  • Conduct investigation to identify trouble areas and make necessary repairs.
  • Maintain records of equipment repairs, adjustments, replacement parts, and report problems to the Director of Facilities.
  • Utilize Asset Essential software for tracking, logging time, and closing work orders.
  • Maintain regular, predictable attendance on campus in accordance with University policy.
  • Attend / complete all required safety training and meetings (e.g., OSHA, machinery operation training, Bloodborne pathogens, fire safety, etc).
  • Follow all safety practices and policies.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills to interact with all levels of the University community to provide education and customer service.
  • Participate in weekly on call rotations - some nights and weekends are required.
  • Other job duties/responsibilities may be assigned to support other Campus Operation needs.
