About The Position

For over 40 years, North Hill, a not-for-profit senior living community located in Needham, Massachusetts, has provided vibrant living opportunities to people 65+ by offering a host of hospitality, wellness and health care services. This position is responsible for routine maintenance and repair on the facility and equipment to include plumbing, plastering, electrical work, carpentry, mechanical, etc., as directed, in accordance with established procedures. They are responsible for inspection and troubleshooting problems in building systems and building equipment.

Requirements

  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and strong customer support skills

  • Ability to work independently with limited supervision
  • Work professionally with people from a wide variety of cultural and socio-economic backgrounds
  • Must possess the ability to deal tactfully with Team Members, Residents, family members, visitors, and the general public
  • When working in Resident areas, must be able to communicate effectively in English
  • Attends and participates in in-service educational classes, Healthcare Academy and staff meetings as directed
  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Must have a valid Driver’s License

Nice To Haves

  • Preferred 3 year experience of plant operation, including life safety, carpentry, plumbing, electrical and HVAC
  • Preferred 3 year of maintenance experience preferably in a housing or hospital setting
  • Preferred computer knowledge

Responsibilities

  • Performs preventive maintenance work orders as directed
  • Maintains proper operation of all the building equipment as directed
  • Responsible for general maintenance and repair of all apartments and facility buildings
  • Repairs and installs apartment appliances including dishwashers, disposals, and ice makers
  • Unplugs drains and insures operation of bathroom facilities; perform other minor plumbing repairs
  • Repairs and planes doors, repairs/replaces ceiling panels and performs other basic carpentry duties
  • Picks up and delivers maintenance supplies and orders parts and supplies as authorized.
  • Assists in inventory as requested
  • Responds to Resident inquiries, requests and complaints regarding maintenance work within scope of authority; emergencies on the off shifts and refers unresolved matters to management
  • Performs duties accordance with safety regulations and department policies and procedures
  • Performs routine maintenance and repair of the facility and equipment to include plumbing, electrical, carpentry, snow removal, mechanical, etc., as directed, in accordance with established maintenance policies and procedures
  • Participate in plant maintenance training programs and initiatives as suggested by the Director of Plant Services.
  • Comply with all safety and environmental procedures, including hazardous control, lockout – tag out programs, educational and regulatory compliances and other building awareness programs
  • Meets department uniform, appearance and grooming requirements
  • Complies with all OSHA safety regulations, local applicable laws regarding health, safety or environment
