About The Position

The George, a newly renovated residential community in Washington, D.C., is seeking an experienced Maintenance Technician to join our on-site operations team. This role is responsible for maintaining the property’s mechanical systems, residential units, common areas, and overall curb appeal while ensuring a safe and well-presented living environment for residents. This is a hands-on position requiring strong technical skills, attention to detail, and the ability to respond to emergencies and on-call situations as needed.

Requirements

  • 2+ years of building maintenance experience in a multi-unit, residential, or student housing environment
  • Strong working knowledge of HVAC, plumbing, electrical, appliances, and general repair
  • EPA I & II certification required (HVAC certification strongly preferred)
  • Technical or vocational schooling in HVAC or related field preferred
  • Ability to troubleshoot and repair building systems independently
  • Basic proficiency in Microsoft Office and Windows systems
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Ability to prioritize and manage tasks in a fast-paced environment
  • Self-motivated with the ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Professional communication skills
  • Ability to build effective working relationships
  • Ability to stand, walk, climb stairs and ladders for extended periods
  • Lift and move up to 50 lbs. without assistance (more with assistance)
  • Work in confined spaces and at heights as needed
  • Comfortable working indoors and outdoors in various weather conditions
  • Exposure to dust, dirt, chemicals, and equipment noise

Nice To Haves

  • Technical or vocational schooling in HVAC or related field preferred

Responsibilities

  • Complete service requests and work orders for residential units and common areas
  • Perform preventative maintenance on building systems and household appliances
  • Troubleshoot and repair HVAC, plumbing, electrical systems, appliances, and general building components
  • Maintain property grounds and exterior cleanliness
  • Support apartment turnover processes in coordination with management
  • Oversee and verify third-party vendor work quality on site
  • Maintain inventory and order necessary maintenance supplies
  • Respond to building emergencies (flooding, fire, mechanical failure, etc.)
  • Participate in on-call rotation as needed
