About The Position

Performs varied semi-skilled and skilled work in the maintenance and repair of buildings and equipment. Duties may involve carpentry; repairing electrical or mechanical equipment; installing new equipment; and repairing buildings, floors, deck areas or stairs. Performs routine manual tasks in maintaining the cleanliness, sanitary conditions, and appearance of company buildings and grounds; or to perform higher-level specialized custodial tasks. Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Two years of general maintenance experience required.
  • Valid Florida driver's license and be insurable by Company's current insurance carrier.
  • Subject to federal, state and local legal requirements/background checks/clearance for working with vulnerable populations.
  • Sitting, standing, use of fingers, arms, hands and legs, driving and medium lifting and carrying (up to 50 lbs.), handling, grasping and talking are constant.
  • Good eyesight (correctable) and hearing (correctable) are essential.
  • Squatting, walking, heavy lifting and carrying (greater than 50 lbs.) are frequent.
  • Pushing, pulling, kneeling, balancing, turning, feeling, are occasional.
  • Knowledge of geographic service area of the organization.
  • Knowledge of federal, state and local traffic/highway laws and regulations.
  • Knowledge of general vehicle safety and driving practices.
  • Knowledge/skill of first aide procedures/practices.
  • Skills in completing work with a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Ability to effectively communicate orally and in writing.
  • General skills in carpentry, plumbing, landscaping, facilities and grounds upkeep, etc., are required.
  • Ability to establish effective working relationships with people, including coworkers, clients and supervisors.
  • Ability to use and operate a telephone/radio.

Nice To Haves

  • OSHA 10/30, EPA 608, or BOMI certifications preferred.
  • Ability to speak/communicate in Spanish as a second language is desired.

Responsibilities

  • Paints building and equipment; patching walls; and repairs or replaces tiles and other wall coverings.
  • Repairs and constructs wood and metal equipment, furniture, doors, shelves, floors, security screens and other fixtures.
  • Opens stopped sewage and drain lines; replaces or repairs faucets, toilets, sinks, valves, water lines, and other plumbing equipment and fixtures.
  • Repairs and replaces electrical outlets, light fixtures, switches and other controls; repairs electrical motors, generators and communication equipment; performs more complex electrical work (such as working with high voltage electrical systems) with appropriate training and education.
  • Repairs, adjusts and calibrates a wide variety of machines and equipment such as air conditioners, heating and ventilating equipment, fire and safety alarms/equipment, general office equipment, kitchen appliances, etc.
  • Cleans, maintains and repairs internal rooms, halls, restrooms, offices, floors, carpets and external walls, siding, gutters, roofs and metal-work.
  • Inspects and reports facility concerns to Facilities Maintenance Supervisor.
  • Participates and works as a team-player with all staff, including but not limited to: teacher, co-workers, supervisor/management, the staff members/specialist in education, health, and family and community partnerships.
  • Cleans, maintains and repairs ground areas, including playgrounds, playground equipment, sidewalks, common ground areas, deck areas, etc.
  • Performs other related work as assigned and is subject to on-call response for critical/emergency situations.
  • Landscaping duties, trimming trees, mulching, weeding, etc.
  • Routine spraying for insects.
  • Maintenance and repair including such work as: installing and repairing plumbing; replacing doors, windows and siding; building cement forms; building and replacing concrete sidewalks, foundations and floors; repairing roofs and installing new roofing; repairing broken windows and installing new windows; painting interior and exterior walls and other surfaces; building and repairing stone and brick walls and floors; and such metal work as replacing and repairing guttering and drain spouts.
  • Uses and follows the policies/practices of You Thrive Florida, State regulations/laws, and federal regulations/laws.
  • Maintains compliance with Head Start Performance Standards.
  • Attends training programs, staff meetings, and other meetings/training.
  • Uses and follows the policies/procedures of You Thrive Florida, including but not limited to Personnel Policies, Occupational Health and Safety policies, payroll policies/practices, etc.
