About The Position

SUMMARY Repairs and maintains machinery and mechanical equipment, in accordance with diagrams, sketches, operation manuals, and manufacturer’s specifications. Duties include installation, maintenance and repair of production or processing equipment. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Observes operating machines, mechanical devices, or equipment to diagnose machine malfunction and determine need for adjustment or repair. Dismantles devices to gain access to and remove defective parts, may use hoists, cranes, hand tools and power tools; replaces defective part with new part or repair from various kinds of metal stock, using hand tools, such as scraper, file, and drill, and machine tools, such as lathe, milling machine, shaper, borer, and grinder. Tests malfunctioning machinery, using test equipment, and discusses malfunction with other maintenance workers to diagnose malfunction. Troubleshoot, upgrade, and repair machine control circuitry/controls. Conducts tests and inspections of equipment, to evaluate quality or performance. Adjusts functional parts of devices and control instruments, using hand tools, electrical multi-meter, gages, levels, plumb bobs, and straightedges. Sets up and operates lathe, drill press, grinder, and other metalworking tools to repair parts. Fabricates parts, install or repair conveyers, electro-mechanical equipment, replace pumps, maintain fluid collection or distribution equipment; may weld using arc or gas. Performs routine preventative maintenance on machines as scheduled and required for TPM. Works individually and as a team to develop and implement quality and efficiency improvements. Initiates purchase order for parts as assigned. Food Safety Responsible and required to notify management about actual or potential food safety issues; and empowered to act to resolve food safety issues within their scope of work. If this position is vacant for any significant period of time the obligation for completion of all food safety and quality related tasks will become the responsibility of the direct manager or a qualified designee. Specialized skills in mechanics, pneumatics, hydraulics, machining, welding and electrical may be required. Computer Skills: Must have basic knowledge of a variety of computer software applications, in word processing, spreadsheets, and databases. May be required to use and understand electronic equipment.

Requirements

  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as blueprints, work orders, work instructions, diagrams, safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Possesses all basic and some advanced skills and knowledge.
  • Has a thorough understanding of the total process flow.
  • Specialized skills in mechanics, pneumatics, hydraulics, machining, welding and electrical may be required.
  • Must have basic knowledge of a variety of computer software applications, in word processing, spreadsheets, and databases.
  • May be required to use and understand electronic equipment.
  • Requires forklift, crane, and hoist certification.
  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED); and 3-5 years of related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience in maintenance.
