About The Position

Performs cleaning, repair, and maintenance of all County owned buildings, property, and related facilities. Ensures compliance with safety standards involving such public buildings, structures, and grounds for the benefit of county employees and the public.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED; or up to one month of related experience or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Must pass Alamosa County background check and pre-employment drug testing
  • Valid Colorado Driver’s License required
  • Ability to take direction from supervisor and other team members
  • Ability to read, write and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written or oral form
  • Ability to take initiative and to accomplish all assigned tasks
  • Ability to see areas that need maintenance
  • Ability to work unsupervised
  • Ability to work schedule as set by supervisor
  • Ability to work with a team or independently as needed
  • Ability to follow policies and procedures of the County
  • Ability to communicate (verbally & in writing) in English
  • Ability to meet the physical requirements listed below

Responsibilities

  • Monitor, repair, install, and perform routine maintenance on all County owned buildings and associated equipment.
  • Design, build, install and/or repair County facilities and equipment using technical knowledge, skills, abilities, techniques, and equipment customary to mechanical, electrical, painting, drywall repair, woodworking, plumbing, and masonry work.
  • Replaces air conditioner filters and monitors the performance of heating/air conditioning systems as needed.
  • Cleans sidewalks and outside area of debris or snow and ice as needed.
  • Mows lawns, trims shrubbery, cultivates flowers, and operates small equipment as needed.
  • Assists in maintenance of lawn and garden tools and equipment including changing oil, filters, lubrication and cleaning as needed.
  • Repair, move, and set up office and facility furniture and equipment as needed.
  • Assists with painting all county owned facilities.
  • Responds to emergencies, including but not limited to; structural problems, equipment failure, plumbing and electrical issues, fire alarms, and power failures at all hours.
  • Follows all safety rules and addresses any safety concerns before starting project.
  • Serves as back-up for custodians, as needed.
  • Performs related tasks as required.
