For more information, visit www.insituform.com Responsibilities: Under supervision the Maintenance Technician maintains, repairs and installs wet out plant equipment/machinery. Maintains a variety of records; participates in special projects; and performs a variety of technical tasks relative to assigned areas of responsibility.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED); and must have 3-5 years of experience in a manufacturing type environment.
  • Must have knowledge of commonly-used concepts, practices, and procedures within our industry.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills are mandatory.
  • Ability to effectively communicate and present information to management, direct reports, customers, suppliers and other employees of the organization.
  • Ability to perform arithmetic calculations and apply basic statistical, algebraic and geometric concepts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, volumes, etc. The ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs. Ability to use computer to enter data and do relatively routine calculations.
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where limited standardization exists and interpret various instructions in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
  • Methods and techniques of maintaining and repairing plant equipment, machinery and related facilities.
  • Lubricants used in plant equipment.
  • Basic electrical knowledge.
  • Fundamentals of pipefitting and fabrication.
  • Operational characteristics of maintenance equipment and tools.
  • Metering and measuring devices related to electrical, hydraulic and mechanical devices.
  • Office procedures, methods, and equipment including computers and applicable software applications.
  • Plant shipping and receiving procedures.
  • Occupational hazards and standard safety practices.
  • Organization Skills: Position requires individual to have strong organizational and interpersonal skills with ability to document findings and corrective actions. Must be a strong communicator able to take initiative and function independently.
  • Computer-Based: Ability to work with spreadsheets, databases, and presentation software. Ability to learn new applications quickly. Microsoft Office skills (Excel, Word and Power Point) required.
  • Physical Demands: In the performance of duties for this position, the employee is: regularly required to sit, talk, and hear; frequently required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, occasionally required to stand, reach with hands and arms, climb or balance, and taste or smell; regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds (occasionally up to 75 pounds). Vision abilities required by this job include close, distance, peripheral, and color vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus. Ability for extended concentration.
  • Work Environment: In performing the duties for this job, the employee regularly works near moving mechanical parts inside a manufacturing facility, as well as working outside in all weather conditions (at job sites with moving vehicles and mechanical operations). Will be occasionally exposed to heights, fumes or airborne particles. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. Travel by automobile and airplane, as required.

Responsibilities

  • Participate in preventive maintenance program for plant equipment, machinery and related facilities; help identify equipment maintenance needs; record mechanical equipment readings; ensure accuracy of records kept.
  • Perform routine mechanical, (limited) electrical, welding, or machining maintenance activities on equipment including lubrication, inspection, and replacement parts.
  • Work with supervisor to order and maintain necessary equipment, tools and back up parts used in plant equipment.
  • Maintain records of plant function readings and equipment history; maintain preventative maintenance records and schedules.
  • Prepare clear and concise reports.
  • Conduct performance tests of plant equipment using various measuring devices such as, pressure gauges, flowmeters and amp/volt meters.
  • Diagnose, troubleshoot, update and repair malfunctioning plant equipment; maintain, repair and overhaul wetout plant equipment including, pumps and motors, compressors, valves, static mixers, pneumatic equipment and simple hydraulic pressure systems.
  • Perform pipefitting; install and repair air and simple hydraulic piping systems.
  • Ensure and adhere to safe work practices and procedures including, but not limited to lockout/tag out and confined space rules and regulations.
  • Interpret drawings, blueprints, schematics, technical manuals and diagrams for a variety of products and systems.
  • Operate a variety of heavy equipment including but not limited to forklifts, semi-tractor/trailers.
  • Work with other shops and vendors to keep all plant equipment running and efficient for daily production.
