About The Position

Northline Seafoods is a growing seafood processing company seeking an experienced Maintenance Technician for the Bristol Bay salmon season, typically running from mid-June through mid-August. This position is based aboard our 400-foot salmon freezing barge operating in Bristol Bay, Alaska, with an expected rotation of 60–70 days at sea. The Maintenance Technician is responsible for the safe operation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and installation of all barge-related mechanical and electrical equipment. As Northline continues to grow, this role may expand into a year-round position supporting off-season salmon processing and shipyard work in Bellingham, WA. This role requires a hands-on, safety-first mindset and a willingness to step in wherever needed to keep operations running smoothly. Important Travel Note: As of May 7, 2025, a REAL ID-compliant identification is required for domestic air travel, including flights to Alaska. Candidates must be able to meet this requirement prior to hire.

Requirements

  • 18+ years old
  • Authorized to work in the U.S.
  • Must be able to: Work 12+ hour days, 7 days per week over a 60–70 day season
  • Lift 50 pounds individually, or up to 100 pounds with assistance

Nice To Haves

  • Previous experience working aboard a processing ship/barge is a definite plus
  • Strong knowledge of barge systems including, but not limited to, power generation, refrigeration plant, electrical, fuel, HVAC, pneumatics, hydraulics, pumps, motors and controls, reverse osmosis, emergency, and deck equipment
  • Previous experience fabricating, installing, and welding (MIG, TIG, and MMA) is highly preferred
  • Ability to train staff in safety protocols, with particular emphasis on OSHA and Coast Guard regulations
  • Clear verbal and written communication skills with maintenance staff and the entire engineering group
  • Ability to solve problems and make clear, rational decisions in a fast-paced work environment

Responsibilities

  • Work collaboratively with a team of 10 electrical, IT, refrigeration, engineering, and maintenance staff to ensure the barge is operating efficiently to maximize production
  • Under the direction of the Chief Engineer and Maintenance Lead, perform predictive, preventive, and corrective maintenance on all barge systems including power generation, refrigeration plant, electrical, fuel, HVAC, pneumatics, hydraulics, pumps, motors and controls, reverse osmosis, emergency, and deck equipment
  • Fabricate equipment through the cutting, forming, welding, gluing, and assembly of mild steel, stainless steel, aluminum, and PVC
  • Complete required safety training, with an emphasis on OSHA and Coast Guard regulations
  • Complete all work with an emphasis on safety and a zero-accident tolerance mentality
  • Maintain the barge and engine room areas in a clean and orderly fashion, knowing that the barge can be inspected by state and federal agencies with or without advance notice
  • Perform all other duties as assigned
