About The Position

As a Maintenance Technician at Pet Food Express, you will play a crucial role in maintaining and enhancing the appearance, functionality, and safety of our retail stores. Reporting to the Facilities Manager, Maintenance Technicians are responsible for all aspects of maintenance, installation, inspection and/or repair of our Pet Food Express retail store locations and Corporate Offices/Warehouse in the Bay Area and SoCal and other duties assigned within the Maintenance team. This individual will interact with team members, store employees, various stakeholders and vendors. This position requires strong organization and collaboration skills, a high degree of ownership and responsibility for managing labor and materials to assure tasks and projects are conducted and completed timely and correctly. We are currently seeking a dedicated Maintenance Technician to service our retail locations in the South Bay area – San Mateo, Santa Clara, San Francisco, and Alameda counties, including our Carmel location – with the flexibility to perform occasional work in the Greater Bay Area as needed. This position requires regular travel between work sites, company van and equipment are provided.

Requirements

  • 3+ years of experience in building maintenance role, preferably within a retail or commercial environment.
  • Excellent plumbing, electrical and handyman skills with the ability to diagnose, repair and resolve issues efficiently and effectively.
  • Good understanding of tools and equipment used for maintenance tasks.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills with a proactive approach to identifying and addressing maintenance needs.
  • Ability to work nights and weekends “on-call” on a rotating basis.
  • Excellent verbal communication, customer service and interpersonal skills with the ability to share/receive information and knowledge to understand, assess and solve facility problems.
  • Ability to work independently with solid time management skills.
  • Tech-savvy with a strong ability to use computers, smartphones, and mobile devices to communicate, manage work, and do research.
  • Excellent problem-solving and organizational skills.
  • Flexibility to work in a fast-paced environment and adapt to changing priorities.
  • Valid driver's license, clean driving record and ability/willingness to travel between work site locations.
  • Ability to lift and carry heavy objects up to 75lbs, stand and walk frequently, climb and descend ladders and stepstools, and perform physically demanding tasks throughout duration of shifts.
  • High school diploma or equivalent

Nice To Haves

  • Experience using work order management systems is a plus.
  • College or trade school desirable; relevant certifications or vocational training is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Complete routine maintenance and a wide variety of inspections, repairs, and duties at PFE locations, while providing solutions to problems in the most efficient manner.
  • Ensure all assigned work orders are managed to completion.
  • Respond to maintenance calls such as repairs needed for PFE Pet Wash equipment (training provided) and urgent calls such as providing dry ice when store freezer fails.
  • Support the Facilities department with construction and special projects.
  • Support the IT Department and other cross-functional departments with installations on an as-needed basis.
  • Document and maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, purchases, repairs, and service history in work orders.
  • Report to the Maintenance Manager regarding replenishment needs of maintenance supplies and special tools.
  • Ensure vendor completion of projects meet PFE standards, provide vendors access to store during closed hours.
  • Rotate being on call availability for emergency maintenance repairs such as store window break-ins.
  • Ensure compliance with all safety, maintenance regulations, and departmental standards.
  • Travel between Pet Food Express locations, typically within a 25-50 mile radius, to perform maintenance tasks as needed.
  • Communicate effectively with store personnel, management, and external contractors/vendors to coordinate maintenance activities and resolve issues.
  • Performs other installations and duties as assigned.
