About The Position

This position operates and maintains two oil/gas boilers and all associated auxiliary equipment, such as generator, feed water pumps and water softeners. Monitors and insures proper operation of all related equipment in the boiler room, such as vacuum pumps, medical air pumps, Johnson Control compressors, constant pressure pumps and emergency generators. Maintains efficient operation on all air handling and exhaust equipment, refrigeration units, heating and cooling equipment and associated items. Performs repairs, maintenance and scheduled inspections on various types of mechanical equipment and systems throughout the facility.

Requirements

  • Valid Indiana Driver's License
  • Two (2) years experience as operating or stationary engineer in similar or larger plant preferred.
  • Previous experience in plumbing and pipe fitting repair preferred.
  • Previous experience with 110-480 volt equipment and controls.
  • Graduate of trade or technical school or completion of approved apprenticeship program in maintenance and repair of commercial and industrial refrigeration.

Responsibilities

  • Monitors and maintains the safe operation of assigned machinery and mechanical equipment located in the power plant and mechanical rooms.
  • Performs scheduled preventive maintenance on assigned equipment and systems.
  • Performs scheduled electrical safety inspections and environmental sweeps in all areas.
  • Requisitions and maintains a required stock of material and repair parts for assigned equipment.
  • Performs prescribed chemical tests and analysis of boiler water, cooling tower water, condensate, chilled water and potable water.
  • Monitors and records assigned data from meters and gauges on assigned equipment.
  • Performs inspections and maintenance on equipment throughout the facility as assigned.
  • Responds to emergency maintenance requests in other hospital departments.
  • Conducts electrical safety inspections of equipment in various areas of the hospital.
  • Maintains cleanliness of the plant during shift.
  • Removes snow and ice from parking areas and sidewalks using proper equipment.
  • Repairs, calibrates, maintains and/or replaces gauges, valves, pneumatic controls and electrical controls for refrigerator, heating and cooling systems.
  • Carries out scheduled preventive maintenance procedures on assigned equipment.
  • Cleans and maintains efficient operation of chiller condenser tubes, cooling towers, evaporator and condenser coils, air supply and return units and heating and cooling coils.
  • Operates and maintains centrifugal chiller.
  • Installs, calibrates, maintains and performs service on all refrigeration units.
  • Installs, calibrates, maintains and performs service on all air conditioning equipment.
  • Installs, calibrates, maintains and performs service on all heating equipment.
  • Shuts down, drains, lubricates and properly prepares equipment for periods of in-operation during off-seasons.
  • Assists in estimating material and labor requirements for any heating, air conditioning, or refrigeration additions or renovations.
  • Assists with training new operators.
  • Performs efficiently with CPCS.
  • Attends unit meetings, in services and other educational programs to maintain competency requirements.
  • Demonstrates conduct that is reflective of THRH's commitment to HCA's Code of Conduct.
  • Understands and satisfies the needs of the patient population appropriate to the age of the patient served.
