About The Position

The University of Evansville (UE) is searching for an experienced and skilled Maintenance Technician with a specialization in Locksmith services and key control. This critical role ensures the security and functionality of all campus entry systems, from traditional locks to modern electronic access. Requirements

  • Technical Knowledge: Knowledge and understanding of major lock systems, including Stanley/Best and Schlage locks and lock combination systems.
  • Mechanical Skills: Fine mechanical skills necessary to build/modify small internal lock parts.
  • Industry Expertise: Working knowledge of card access locking systems, standard locksmith tools, and building maintenance practices.
  • Code Knowledge: Working knowledge of fire and life safety codes relevant to entrance/exit locking practices.
  • Documentation: Experience with data management practices applied to lock management records, including reading and applying locking system documents.
  • Physical Requirements: Unlimited mobility; able to work at heights above ten feet and in restricted spaces. Frequently works in extreme high/low temperatures.
  • Carpentry Skills: Carpentry skills associated with construction, maintenance, repair, and replacement of doors, windows, and building components. Proficient with power and hand tools of the carpentry trade.
  • Analytical Skills: Strong analytical skills to diagnose problems and resolve them appropriately.

Nice To Haves

  • Specific certification or specialized training in locksmithing or key control systems is highly desirable.

Responsibilities

  • Locksmith Operations & Key Control: Maintain, repair, and replace locks, door closers, and associated door hardware to ensure campus security. Oversee, create, and maintain the master key matrix, manage key control, and ensure the overall security of the hard key system.
  • System Maintenance: Inspect, clean, adjust, and lubricate locking mechanisms; repair or replace worn or damaged devices. Create combination locks, cores, and associated keys as required.
  • Electronic Access: Evaluate locations for keyless lock systems, recommend installations, and install, modify, maintain, repair, and replace electronic access and card access systems campus-wide.
  • Administration: Administer lock code assignment and change transaction records campus-wide.
  • Hardware Installation: Install, repair, maintain, replace, and adjust locks on secure storage equipment (safes, filing cabinets, mailboxes) and general door hardware, closers, panic, and security devices.
  • Carpentry & General Maintenance: Perform general carpentry work, including the construction, repair, and maintenance of walls, ceilings, floors, doors, windows, and building structural elements. Assemble, install, repair, and maintain furniture, signs, and decorative trim items.
