About The Position

The Maintenance Technician position is an indirect labor role within the operational structure, primarily focused on facility and production equipment and its related preventative and corrective tasks. This position requires a high degree of ownership and carries the responsibility for managing labor and materials in a manner that ensure tasks and projects are completed on time, within budget, and with the highest quality. This position may function in both a direct role and a supervisory role for supplemental staff and junior level technicians. This ownership also extends to recognizing and quickly acting upon unscheduled and urgent situations with minimal to no supervision. Keeping all systems running safely and continuously by eliminating the impact of downtime on operations is the primary objective.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED); two plus years of related experience and or training; or an equivalent combination of education and experience is required. Technical certificate, associate degree in a related field, and/or experience in chemical plant maintenance is preferred. At the discretion of the Facilities Manager, parts of this requirement may be waived.
  • A thorough understanding of production plant systems to include but not limited to power generation, filtration, electrical, compressed gases, heating / cooling, pumps, piping, pneumatics, hydraulics, blowers / fans, chemical media delivery, and forklift / material handling equipment.
  • Willing and able to work non-production hours as necessary.
  • Must be able to multitask and work under stress.
  • Must possess strong reading, communication, and comprehension abilities.
  • Ability to fill out log sheets, write routine reports and correspondence.
  • Basic computer skills including the ability to accurately generate, edit, retrieve, and print Word and Excel documents.

Nice To Haves

  • Technical certificate, associate degree in a related field, and/or experience in chemical plant maintenance is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Understand and utilize the computer-based Maintenance Management software to generate and track work orders, tasks, and spare parts inventory. Be familiar with and utilize features within the software to generate periodic performance reports.
  • Understand and follow assigned preventative maintenance procedures to ensure consistent and reliable operation of all equipment.
  • Effectively respond to unscheduled repair tasks in a timely manner in order to minimize impact on scheduled production.
  • Be proactive and fix potential problems in order to avoid future failures.
  • Maintain complete records of all activities including assigned projects, tasks and work orders.
  • Create periodic reports of assigned activities and projects.
  • Properly use the spare parts system by decrementing part usage, periodically checking inventory level reports and generating purchase order requests when needed.
  • Utilize the standard supplier base to effectively locate appropriate spare or replacement parts.
  • Source parts when a standard supplier is unknown or unavailable.
  • Understand and operate the wastewater management systems as back-up to the Wastewater team. When necessary, as back-up, follow waste treatment procedures as directed by engineering to ensure consistent and compliant storage, treatment, and discharge of all industrial wastes (liquids and solids), along with the generation and submittal of all associated records. Additionally, this position, when necessary, as back-up, will be responsible for the storage, treatment, and discharge of all industrial waste in a manner which will not cause undue impact to production cycles.
  • Responsible for the supervision of supplemental staff occasionally assigned to special projects.
  • Any other duties as assigned by the Facilities Manager.
