About The Position

As a Facilities Maintenance Technician 2, you will assist in the installation, maintenance, and repair of automated material handling equipment and ensure high equipment availability rates. You will use preventive and predictive maintenance processes, and rapidly troubleshoot equipment breakdowns and quickly restore equipment to service to support the successful operation of the supply chain facility. You will work with other service technicians to solve problems, validate quality of work for outside specialty contractors, work with building leaders to optimize material handling equipment, and meet aggressive timelines. You will collaborate with Maintenance Technician and managers to perform Root Cause Analysis for equipment failures. A successful candidate in this role will: Essential Job Functions:

Requirements

  • 2 to 3 years of practical experience as a maintenance technician, mechanic or equivalent.
  • 3 years of troubleshooting and repair experience
  • 2 years of experience specializing in preventative maintenance and process improvement.
  • PC competency and ability to use mobile apps on handheld devices
  • Familiar with wiring diagrams, symbols and electrical measuring
  • Experience in the following areas: o Work order management o Preventive/predictive maintenance procedures o Basic blueprint and schematic reading o Electrical and electronic principles o Basic metal fabrication and welding o Industrial Controls and Electronics
  • Ability to troubleshoot basic Input/Output function
  • Mechanical Skills: Understanding of mechanical systems, tools, and machinery. Ability to troubleshoot, repair, and maintain mechanical components.
  • Electrical Knowledge: Familiarity with electrical systems, wiring, and circuits. Ability to read schematics and troubleshoot electrical issues.
  • PLC: Basic Understanding the function of programmable logic controllers (PLCs), which are crucial for automation and process control in industrial settings.
  • Hydraulics and Pneumatics: Understanding of hydraulic and pneumatic systems, including the ability to diagnose and repair issues. Ability to read schematics and troubleshoot issues.
  • Welding and Fabrication: Basic skills in welding, soldering, and metal fabrication are required for repairs and building structures.
  • HVAC and Refrigeration: Progressive knowledge of heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems.
  • Machine Calibration and Testing: Ability to calibrate machines and perform diagnostic tests to ensure optimal performance with minimal assistance.
  • Battery Functions and operations. Understanding of battery usage and proper maintenance of the site’s battery program.
  • Rolling stock. Understanding the basics to repair and troubleshoot rolling stock.
  • Computer Literacy: Familiarity with computer systems for managing equipment maintenance logs, CMMS, diagnostics, and interfacing with automation systems.
  • Lockout/Tagout Procedures: Mastery of lockout/tagout (LOTO) procedures to safely work on electrical or mechanical equipment.
  • Problem-Solving Skills: Ability to think critically and solve complex issues quickly and efficiently.
  • Communication: Clear communication with team members, supervisors, technical vendors, and other departments to convey issues, solutions, and updates.
  • Teamwork: Ability to work in teams, especially in collaborative maintenance or installation projects.
  • Time Management: Efficiently managing time and prioritizing tasks, especially during equipment breakdowns or preventive maintenance schedules.
  • Adaptability and Flexibility: Willingness to train or be trained

Nice To Haves

  • Degree from a vocational school or college with a focus in the Mechanical or Electrical field
  • 2+ years apprenticeship or equivalent experience in the Mechanical or Electrical field
  • Experience with automated conveyor systems and controls
  • Experience with Material Handling Equipment (MHE) safety standards
  • Experience with robotic operation/ maintenance
  • Progressive knowledge in fields electrical, mechanical, and / or HVAC systems.
  • Equipment-Specific Training
  • Progressive knowledge in industrial equipment or machinery used in a particular industry.
  • Ability to obtain a certification on all MHE.
  • Adaptability and Flexibility: Willingness to train or be trained on new technologies and adapt to changing environments, especially in fast-paced industrial settings.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain and troubleshoot all electrical and mechanical aspects of Material Handling Equipment (MHE) on site, including conveyor systems, sortation, robotics, or Automated Storage and Retrieval Systems (ASRS)
  • Adjust scanners, cameras, field buses, scales and printer applicators
  • Reset, repair, or replace adjustable components (belts, chains, cables) and wearing components (guides, bearings, wheels, rollers, pulleys)
  • Clean, lubricate, and calibrate equipment
  • Use appropriate job plans, procedures, and manuals
  • Maintain and troubleshoot motors, photo eyes, relays, proximity sensors, solenoids, motor starters, tachometers, encoders, etc.
  • Assist with basic electronics/ Programmable Logic Controls troubleshooting
  • Conduct maintenance and basic troubleshooting of all types of industrial robots
  • Utilize handheld devices and asset management system to create and close Work Orders with appropriate data (labor hours, downtime, problem/cause/remedy, and parts used)
  • Develop and maintain positive working relationships across all levels of the organization
  • Follow appropriate safety procedures and use Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) while maintaining equipment (Lock Out/Tag Out, Arc Flash, etc.), and ensure a safe work environment by eliminating potential equipment safety hazards
  • Develops knowledge base of different systems within the Distribution Center.
  • Maintains an organized work area and promotes a safe working environment with the Maintenance department.
  • Communicate with (or to) individuals or groups verbally and/or in writing (e.g. customers, suppliers, associates) to minimize downtime of equipment.
  • Operate material handling equipment, battery equipment, moving machinery, and other powered equipment.
