About The Position

The Maintenance Technician II performs building and equipment maintenance functions and safely operates power equipment without direct supervision.

Requirements

  • Possess a high school diploma or equivalent.
  • Possess a valid Arizona Driver’s License.
  • Possess or have the ability to obtain a valid Arizona Identity Verified Prints (IVP) Fingerprint Clearance Card within forty-five (45) days of employment .
  • Knowledge of: Current Occupational Health & Safety Administration (OSHA) safety standards and requirements as they relate to District equipment and procedures.
  • Basic understanding of carpentry, electrical wiring, plumbing, heating, cooling (HVAC), food processing equipment, basic refrigeration and other areas of building maintenance
  • Basic math, including calculations using fractions, percents, and/or ratios; methods, techniques, materials and tools used in the installation, troubleshooting, maintenance and repair of electrical systems/ subsystems; maintain and troubleshoot electrical including controlling/balancing systems; blueprints, schematics and the National Electrical Code.
  • Skill and Ability to: Use of heavy and other grounds maintenance equipment and tools.
  • Safely use any necessary power equipment.
  • Troubleshooting and repairing maintenance equipment.
  • Perform general maintenance work requiring basic knowledge in the areas of carpentry, electrical, plumbing, heating and cooling.
  • Read and follow blueprints and other technical documents.
  • Require vision (which may be corrected) to read small print.
  • Require the mobility to stand, stoop, reach and bend.
  • Require mobility of arms to reach and dexterity of hands to grasp and manipulate small objects.
  • Require the ability to stand for long periods.
  • Require the ability to walk long distances.
  • Perform work which involves the frequent lifting, pushing and/or pulling of objects which may approximate 75 pounds and may occasionally weigh up to 100 pounds.
  • May be required to work in inclement weather without effective protection from sun, cold and rain.
  • May be required to work with harsh and toxic substances.
  • May be required to wear protective apparel including goggles, face protectors, aprons, shoes and oxygen breathing apparatus.
  • May be required to work around foul odors, loud noise, moving mechanical parts, electrical current.

Nice To Haves

  • Three years of construction/building related maintenance experience is preferred.
  • Experience in training others in the safe use of all necessary power equipment.
  • Any combination equivalent to training and experience that could likely provide the required knowledge, skills and abilities.

Responsibilities

  • Complies with all HIPAA and FERPA related confidentiality requirements.
  • Develops positive relations with students, parents, and school staff.
  • Safely operates large field mowers, heavy equipment and power equipment, such as tractors, dump trucks, bobcats, trenchers and backhoes.
  • Complies with all current Occupational Health & Safety Administration (OSHA) standards and requirements.
  • Performs routine preventative maintenance of tools, equipment and vehicles.
  • Administers training to other employees in the safe operation and maintenance of power equipment.
  • Monitors and maintains inventory of supplies.
  • Performs snow removal at the Director of Facilities’ discretion.
  • Reports major damage and repair work to the Director of Facilities.
  • Advises the Director of Facilities on preventative maintenance as needed.
  • Documents all work performed and materials used.
  • Performs skilled maintenance work including carpentry, electrical, plumbing, heating, cooling (HVAC), food processing equipment, basic refrigeration, and other areas of building maintenance.
  • Inspects systems and their components to ensure safety, oversees necessary repairs and provides an ongoing program of preventative maintenance.
  • Installs system components to maintain facilities in a safe, comfortable and operating condition.
  • Diagnoses problems to identify equipment and/or systems in need of repair or replacement.
  • Repairs components and/or systems to maintain facilities in a safe, comfortable and operating condition.
  • Performs routine and preventative maintenance to ensure the ongoing function of electrical systems.
  • Maintains electrical systems and equipment to ensure the availability and proper operation of services and systems.
  • Coordinates with administration and other trades to complete projects/work orders efficiently.
  • Inspects work of contractors and updates others on status of projects as requested.
  • Responds to emergency situations during and after hours as needed and/or assigned to resolve immediate safety concerns.
  • Requests equipment and supplies to maintain inventory and ensure availability of items needed to complete necessary installations/repairs.
  • Responsible for implementation of preventive maintenance plans as directed by the Director of Facilities.
  • Perform skilled electrical and special systems functions at the journeyman level.
  • Perform using contemporary methods and techniques in special systems.
  • Follow current regulations as related to fire and security.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
