About The Position

Under general supervision, performs unskilled and semi-skilled work in the maintenance and repair of all City facilities and properties. This includes work in multiple building trades such as: plumbing, electrical, carpentry, HVAC repair, painting, window and door repair and replacement, fencing, drywall, roofing, signage, tile and flooring, concrete, block, and stucco work, and appliance repair. This job will also include miscellaneous responsibilities such as covering for custodial staff when necessary, rodent control, putting together office furniture and equipment, operating light to heavy equipment, and pulling a trailer on a regular basis. Employee is responsible for maintaining, repairing, and reporting any repair needs in City facilities. Employee will report to the Facilities Maintenance Supervisor.

Requirements

  • Graduation from high school with vocational training in carpentry and/or building trades
  • 1 to 2 years of experience in building trades construction and maintenance; or any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required skills, knowledge, and abilities.
  • Must have and maintain a valid Florida driver’s license.

Responsibilities

  • Plumbing repairs on toilets, urinals, showers, sewage lines etc.
  • Electrical repairs such as: replacing light switches, outlets, ballasts, LED drivers etc.
  • Installing new lighting as required and troubleshooting any other electrical issues we may come across.
  • Carpentry and renovation works from minor to major remodeling and restoration, repair, or alteration.
  • Minor HVAC troubleshooting and repair.
  • Minor to major painting projects from repainting entire buildings to paint touch up.
  • Fencing repair and maintenance on fencing of all types.
  • Hanging and general repair and patching of drywall.
  • Minor roofing maintenance and repair such as patching leaks and replacing shingles, flashing, drip edge etc.
  • Installing signage.
  • Installing and replacing tile, carpet, and other forms of flooring.
  • Concrete, block, and stucco repairs on buildings.
  • General appliance repair such as repairing washing machines, dryers, dish washers, ice machines, refrigerators, garage door and gate openers etc.
  • Performs other related work as required.
  • Additionally, this position is considered “essential personnel” meaning the employee is critical to the operation and preservation of public health, safety, and welfare. As such, the employee may be requested to work during a declared emergency and may be requested to work during an undeclared emergency or in the aftermath of an event associated with a declared emergency. On an incident-by-incident basis, the employee’s department head, or designee will make the determination when the employee will be requested to work.
