About The Position

Under the general direction of the Facilities Supervisor, employee will perform routine maintenance duties as directed and assist maintenance staff in the performance of facility construction, maintenance, and remodeling tasks to include the primary fields of electrical, heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and refrigeration (HVAC-R), carpentry, welding, plumbing, etc. Individual must have the ability to create routine preventative maintenance schedules and corrective maintenance duties. Will perform all other tasks as assigned.

Requirements

  • Limited knowledge/skill in a variety of crafts or trades as they relate to the repair of any and all of the above-mentioned equipment, but not a predominant knowledge of any one trade or craft.
  • Knowledge of user requirements and the locations and functions of all machines, tools and equipment in the system(s) and the maintenance and repair procedures and specifications.
  • Knowledge of relevant equipment, policies, procedures, and strategies to promote safe operations for the protection of people, property and the institution.
  • Possess tact and courtesy, as well as sound judgment.
  • Have a strong ability to work in a team environment.
  • Display attention to detail.
  • Two years (but not less than one year) of related experience or work in maintenance, performing maintenance duties and working with tools and equipment as described above, or any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
  • High school diploma or equivalent is required
  • The incumbent must be able to sit or stand for prolonged periods of time, as well as regularly reach above the shoulders, bend, squat; must be able to push, pull, and lift up to and including 80 pounds without experiencing physical discomfort or pain.
  • Possess manual/finger dexterity – be able to quickly move hand, arm, or two hands and to make precisely coordinated movements of the fingers of one or both hands to grasp, manipulate, or assemble objects.
  • Possess multilimbed coordination while sitting, standing, or lying down. It does not involve performing the activities while the whole body is in motion.
  • Excellent eyesight – with or without vision correction – is mandatory.
  • Must be able to travel occasionally.

Responsibilities

  • Perform scheduled and "as needed" inspections of all tribal facilities and ensure appropriate preventative maintenance duties are completed on all tribal facilities.
  • Performs minor electrical maintenance to include, but not limited to, replacement or repair of fixtures (e.g., wall switches and outlets, incandescent and fluorescent bulbs and tubes, ballast, sockets, fuses, minor appliances, cords, etc.) using appropriate hand, power, and specialty tools.
  • Performs minor plumbing maintenance (e.g., replacement or repair of leaks in drains and faucets, unclogging of drains, trenching, and laying new lines, replacing drain hoses and washers and similar devices, etc.) to provide operable and efficient plumbing systems in tribal facilities.
  • Performs minor painting, carpentry, and masonry work (e.g., preparing surfaces and using brush, sprayer, or roller to apply paints, stains and varnishes, hanging doors, fitting locks and handles, etc.) to provide operable and efficient facilities for department personnel.
  • Assists in performing minor HVAC work (e.g., adjusting and calibrating thermostats, pneumatic controls and HVAC and electric energy management systems.
  • Confers with facility maintenance technicians and supervisor to discuss work processes and problems and to get input on the best techniques for various maintenance and repair needs.
  • Receives direction, guidance, and instruction from facilities maintenance director in the correct operation of equipment and materials used to complete required maintenance duties.
  • Prepares the surfaces and paints various structures and equipment (e.g., walls, refrigerators, evaporative coolers, floors, roofs, doors, restroom facilities, etc.) to preserve wood and metal parts from corrosion and maintain a safe, comfortable, working environment using various painting equipment and related tools (e.g., sprayers, rollers, brushes, thinners, etc.).
  • All other duties as assigned.
  • Assist with preparation of monthly and annual reports, record maintenance and repair work performed and the cost of the work.
  • Clean work area and equipment.
  • May attend professional meetings, pertinent workshops and serve on organization-wide and professional committees.
