About The Position

Under direct supervision, the Maintenance Technician I is an entry level position responsible for conducting machine setup, troubleshooting, repairs, and preventive maintenance service with basic efficiency. This role may also involve resolving warranty and non-warranty repairs to damaged products. Duties are performed under the direction of the Maintenance Manager and Leads. Some positions may also be involved in conducting service/repairs, assisting with warranty issues, filing warranty reports with vendors, providing on-site assistance for troubleshooting and repair, planning and coordinating activities for problem resolution, reviewing performance reports, analyzing inspection findings to determine problem sources and recommend corrective actions, maintaining accuracy in service work, acting as a communication link between customer and company, backing up other technicians, informing supervisors of stock shortages or equipment malfunctions, assisting with loading/unloading trucks, restocking supplies, maintaining tools and machinery, and ensuring truck cleanliness and daily fluid/tire pressure checks.

Requirements

  • Ability to read a limited number of two- and three-syllable words and to recognize similarities and differences between words and between series of numbers. The ability to print and speak simple sentences.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.

Responsibilities

  • Ensures operation of machinery and mechanical equipment by completing preventive maintenance requirements on engines, motors, pneumatic tools, conveyor systems, and production machines; following diagrams, sketches, operations manuals, manufacturer's instructions, and engineering specifications; troubleshooting malfunctions.
  • Locates sources of problems by observing mechanical and electrical devices in operation; listening for problems; using precision measuring and testing instruments.
  • Removes defective parts by dismantling devices; using hoists, cranes, and hand and power tools; examining form and texture of parts.
  • Determines changes in dimensional requirements of parts by inspecting used parts; using rules, calipers, micrometers, and other measuring instruments.
  • Adjusts functional parts of devices and control instruments by using hand tools, levels, plumb bobs, and straightedges.
  • Controls downtime by informing production workers of routine preventive maintenance techniques; monitoring compliance.
  • Fabricates repair parts by using machine shop instrumentation and equipment.
  • Maintains equipment, parts, and supplies inventories by checking stock to determine inventory level; anticipating needed equipment, parts, and supplies; placing and expediting orders; verifying receipt.
  • Conserves maintenance resources by using equipment and supplies as needed to accomplish job results.
  • Provides mechanical maintenance information by answering questions and requests.
  • Prepares mechanical maintenance reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing information and trends.
  • Maintains technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing technical publications; establishing personal networks.
  • Maintains continuity among work teams by documenting and communicating actions, irregularities, and continuing needs.
  • Maintains safe and clean working environment by complying with procedures, rules, and regulations.
  • Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed.
  • Performs building, lighting, and plumbing repairs for Facility as needed.
  • Conduct service/repairs, assist with warranty issues, and file warranty reports with vendors (for some positions).
  • Provide on-site assistance to help troubleshoot and repair product and/or equipment (for some positions).
  • Plan and coordinate activities concerned with investigating and resolving customer reports of problems (for some positions).
  • Review performance reports and documentation from customers and sales representatives and inspect malfunctioning or damaged product to determine nature and scope of problem (for some positions).
  • Analyze review and inspection findings to determine source of problem, and recommend repair, replacement, or other corrective action (for some positions).
  • Maintain high accuracy in performing service work on product per work order specifications (for some positions).
  • Provide a communication link between the customer and the Company to help ensure that effective service is provided to the customer (for some positions).
  • Back up other maintenance technicians as needed (for some positions).
  • Inform supervisor of any shortages in stock, or of any malfunctions or damage to equipment or vehicles (for some positions).
  • Help load trucks for delivery and assist in unloading incoming trucks (for some positions).
  • Restock incoming supplies, keep tools and machinery clean and maintained, and is responsible for all tools assigned to truck (for some positions).
  • Maintain truck by keeping it clean and organized (for some positions).
  • Check fluids and tire pressure daily (for some positions).
